This is a very popular game over at TNO, so I figured I'd start it over here, too. You have 20 questions to figure out what this object is, but you cannot ask whether it is a species, starship, or anomaly. Go!

Is it alive?

I bet when Neanderthal kids would make a snowman, someone would
always end up saying "Don't forget the big heavy eyebrows." Then they would all get embarrassed because they remembered they had the big hunky eyebrows too, and then they would get mad and eat the snowman.

Request for clarification: When you say that it is not a Trek character, do you simply mean that it isn't a main character, or do you mean that it has nothing to do w/ Trek at all? Or do you mean something entirely different?

In talking with Fabrux, I have determined that the SSA was in one of the following four TNG episodes: "The Child," "Where Silence Has Lease," "Elementary, Dear Data," or "The Outrageous Okona."
