*ahem*

I agree with the end result, but not with how the author got there. Therefore, by unpopular demand, I present (again) my computations for Voyager's position as of "Equinox."

Season 1

Normal warp: 684.4 light-years.

Season 2

Normal warp: 1000.0 light-years.

Season 3

Normal warp: 1000.0 light-years.

Season 4

Normal warp: 1069.6 light-years. This is due to the effect of the astrometrics lab. Rather than instantaneously transporting Voyager 5000 light-years closer to the Alpha Quadrant, it increases Voyager's average speed, since they can now detect obstacles farther away and plot better courses. Assuming Voyager's speed before "Year of Hell" was 1000 ly/year, it's new speed is 1095.2 ly/year.

Kes catapult: 9500 light-years.

Quantum slipstream: 300 light-years.

Season 5

Normal warp: 1095.2 light-years.

Spatial vortex: 2500 light-years.

Quantum slipstream: 10952 light-years. I choose to take Janeway's line of "ten years closer to home" literally. This is further evidenced by her line in "Dark Frontier," which says that 20000 light-years is about 15 years worth of normal warp, indicating they are travelling faster than 1000 ly/year.

Borg transwarp: 20000 light-years. She said 20000 light-years! Not 15000!

Grand total

48101.2 light-years, assuming that Voyager recieved no boosts in the last few episodes of Season 5 that I missed.

70000 - 48101.2 = 21898.8 light-years from home.

Please note that, at this distance, there is no possible way that Voyager is still in the Delta Quadrant. They are in the Beta Quadrant. Period. End of discussion.

Garak: Interesting. You saved the day by destroying the world.
Bashir: I bet they didn't teach you that in the Obsidian Order.

They have them in the Beta Quadrent, where they would be if Voyagers writers and Brndon Braga gave a crap about being consistant.

Who's page is that.
Must agree with Krenim!!

Hmm.. I think your 'computations' are more accurate Krenim.

I hope they (behind the scenes) will use the fact that Voyager is in the Beta Quadrant in the next season.

Sounds about right to me, even though they say it is about 35,000 lightyears.

All things considered, Voyager is doing quite well. After all, they've covered 35 years of the trip in only 5 years.

How many mentions of being in Delta Quadrant have been made since Voyager arrived in the Beta Quadrant?

Plenty. Almost one per episode since "Dark Frontier".

Well according to Relativity, Voyager is still in the Delta quadrant. When Lt. Ducane prepares to enlist 7 of 9 he says the position of USS Voyager to be in the Delta quadrant, looks like the writers screwed us again.

That proves it, Janeway's a stupid little cow.

She sets course from the Delta quadrant to get home, and they're currently in the Beta Quadrant. Why didn't she just set course for the wormhole in the Gamma Quadrant leading straight to DS9 and Bajor?

Because she's stupid! Now kill that woman and put someone else in command.

Well, for one thing, Its just about as far to the Wormhole as it is to go straight home. Not to mention that the Dominion might not like them wandering through their territory.

And as far as she knows, it could collapse by the time they get there. Then it's another 76 years home.

You know...
We're assuming all those jumps and accelerations were all in a straight line towards the Alpha Quad. maybe after an hour or so they realise they've screwed up.

This makes me wonder though, maybe the producers could have begged Genevieve Bujold to stay after leaving the show after one day. Hmmm, I wonder if she found out how the writers really were...

Maybe they're close to the border between the Delta and Beta Quadrants? And by early next season they'll mention that they are in the Beta Quadrant.

Of course the whole plot of the show is Voyager getting home. The writters like to give Voyager a boost, but apparently not kept up with it's position in space. If Voyager is in the Beta Quadrant and could get home by the end of the season what do they do for the seventh season? Which btw, Mulgrew signed to do.

I've seen an interview with one of the writers that says they know that Voyager should be in the Beta Q, but Branden Braga didn't want them there yet. I think it was in the Great Link, but I may have seen it somewhere else. I got on a chat at Star Trek.com and no one wanted to discuss it.

I'd have to agree with the statement that they may not have had all those jumps in a straight line. Also, Janeway mentioned that they'd added two years to their journey by avoiding Borg ships. They could be avoiding the zone of intense radiation at the center of the galaxy.

I got a letter from Mike Okuda regarding Voyager's position, and here's what he had to say...

"We realize this, although we're not yet exactly sure what, if anything, our writers will do with this datapoint. We believe that Voyager "should"
have crossed into the Beta Quadrant at the end of the fifth season, although there is a sufficient margin of error that it might have happened several weeks (or even months) earlier or later."
-Michael Okuda

Actually I wrote to him about any off hand info on the Equinox, and I mementioned about the problem with Voyager's position and where it is.

Actually, it's JUST about plausible they're still in Delta, but by early year 6 they should definitely be in Beta. This leeway is only allowed by the array being right on the galactic rim, further than in the map at the above link, and if they have had to avoid a direct "straight" route to keep distance from the galactic core, or some other astrometric obstacle not excplicitly referred to.
