Executive Producer Rick Berman describes the coming series, saying, It's closer in tone to TNG or the original series than either DS9 or Voyager.

(So you're using rejected TNG scrips as the basis for the new show.)

It takes place in a different time than any other Star Trek series to date.

(Will it be on GMT? Eastern? Pacific? Snail time?)

We'll have seven regular characters...

(No big surprise there...)

...five of them human, two of them not...

(Two words for you Ricky: Gay character!)

We'll also have a kick-ass spaceship.

(That'll make the techies here happy. )

I wish I could tell you more, but I can't.

(C'mon you corporate whore! Fess up! Break out the sodium penathol allready!)

Berman also explained that fresh voices...

(What no fresh pastry?)

...have been brought in and will continue to be a part of the new series, saying, What Brannon and I will be doing...

(DRUGS! LOTSA DRUGS!)

...on Series V is trying to bring in as many new voices as we can, in terms of directors, new writers and new elements of design, whether it's costumes or makeup or sets or music...

(In otherwords, all the crap TNG, DS9 and Voyager left behind in the trash bins...)

...We are trying to put together a younger, less-experienced-in-Star Trek team of people to give this show a completely new feel and look. We want this to be not your father's Star Trek, so to speak.

(And we pray for the SAG strikes to happen to keep you from hoisting this abortion called "Enterprise" off on an unsuspecting viewing public.)

That is all...

So you're now stealing from "Friends?"

Can we say HACK?

I think we can, children...

Bleh. By the way, its sodium penthahol, not sodium penathol.

They say they're bringing in fresh blood yet they have Okuda onboard among their new crew. What, will it be him and a few other "oldies" and the rest totally new and unexperienced people?

BTW I liked TOS. Overacting, chezzy effects, you knew who was gonna get killed in every episode, and Kirk would screw anything with 2 legs (maybe even more)
- something someone said at another board.

Obviously. That's what they've said.

The impression was, there'd be new blood yet they have alot of old blood there or rather some that is very influential. What we'll get is TNG/DS9/Voy with a minor twist, not a real difference from now.

I thought it was "sodium pentothal", and that it was only used as a "truth serum" in bad movies...?

It is spelled sodium penthahol but pronounced sodium pentahol. It is actually a "truth serum" and used not only in B movies but in real life as well, I believe. Anyway, enough of that. Back to the thread!

I just looked this up. The generic name is thiopental sodium, and the registered trade name is Pentothal sodium (also known, incorrectly, as sodium pentothal, probably by analogy with sodium chloride). An unofficial synonym is penthiobarbital, which is as close as you can get to "penthahol." An -ol ending usual indicates that something is an alcohol, which this drug is not.

I hope that "younger, less-experienced-in-Star Trek" doesn't mean "they never watched the original series" or "canon be damned."

That's exactly what Berman meant.

Series V is sooooo screwed.

You know, you can't judge something unless you've seen it. Sure, to some, it may sound not as good as they'd like, but you should probably wait until the show has actually aired before dismissing it based on ineffectual rumors and standard pre-show producer hype.

*sigh*

You are right, of course.

But there are times I just can't help taking a jab at Berman and company.

As much as I do sometimes as well, my optimism kicks in, and I hope they surprise us.

In my honest opinion, I hope it's not on UPN. UPN is the most ghetto network I have every seen. Also if Voyager was on a different network, it might get better ratings. However if on adifferent network, it could get cancelled. Currently I don't know the ratings of the show compared to the rest.

Well, I think everyone can agree that UPN caters to the masses, delivering such crap as WWF Smackdown. However, Gary & Mike is pretty neat
