Has anyone read these books? I am reading the first and in chapter 14, has alittle non-cannon info on the Genesis wave.

It's actually interesting. However since I am bored and this forum is near dead right now. It had occured to me (normally I wouldn't post something like this) that the Genesis wave is the 23rd-24th century equivilant of a nuclear weapon but without anyone else developing it as well.

But since ST 3, there has been no mention whatsoever of it. So either it's like in the case in the book, where it was buried and kept secret by the upper levels of Starfleet, or every other power has it but knows about a Cold War type weapon. Or a peace treaty banning it or something.

What do you think?

I remember the Marvel Comics Star Trek: The Next Generation Riker Special #1 which had Genesis being declassified and ignored as a rather dangerous footnote in history, until a rebel Klingon tried to steal the plans for what was then referred to as a 'failed terraforming process' Since the Klingon wanted to use it for terror, I assume some sort of restriction was again put on the information after that.

Yeah, this thing is dangerous. But then again I can also download general theory about nuclear bombs. The deterrent to me buiding one is that i have neither the facilities, money, or most importantly, weapons grade radioactive matter. I think possibly the same deal refers to the 23rd/24th century. Everyone knows about this 'doomsday device' but restrictions on protomatter keep it rare to see it considered. Also, possibly after Genesis the UFP and KE sign a Protomatter Weapons Non-Proliferation Treaty because of the mutual recognition of the fact that such a weapon serves little purpose for the attacking side since it ends up completely breaking up useful planets.

Then again, considering there are maniacs in the universe, that may not stop them from trying to set of a Genesis device on a planet.

Actually, the Genesis Device was mentioned again, by Janeway in "The Omega Directive."
