It's too bad,in DS9, we didn't get to see Captain Maxwell come back and kick some Cardassian ass!!!
Any thoughts?

Yes, I am still lurking around the forum, but I have to say things have been a little too quiet for me.

Things have been quiet, cause YOU ain't been here.@)

You are refering to the Captain the Enterprise had to hunt down and stop? True to form, we never heard of him again. They must have decided he was fruitier then a nut cake, and sent him to the Federation Funny Farm.

Actually, think about it...Maxwell was right about the Cardassians all along. I wouldn't be surprised if they made him an admiral or something.

Well, it would be interesting if Captain Maxwell did show up at DS9 during the Dominion War. Though I highly doubt he would retain his rank of captain after the stunt he pulled. But still, this would be a good Miles O'Brian story if written correctly. It could provide some more background info on Miles and the time he spent onboard Maxwell's former command, the USS Rutledge, especially during the Cardassian/Federation conflicts in the early 2300's.

Damn, Michael, your right. I forgot about O'Brian being close to him. And since Picard understood that he was right, from the begining, it isn't so much of a stretch to see him again. Yet another missed opportunity for DS9.

How is failing to rehash a tired story from TNG a "failure" on DS9's part?

It's not like it would be alone on the bad story list among DS9 episodes, and it could have been done well.

It's not the only opportunity they missed. Basically, a lot of the Cardassian backstory was introduced in TNG, with some memorable characters and situations. Picard oversaw the whole handover of the Maquis territories to Cardassia. . . the whole Maxwell incident. . . and then there was the torturer Gul Madred - who wouldn't have liked to see what he thought of subsequent events?
