Picked it up on DVD today ... haven't had a chance to watch it yet. Anyone else?

I went to the store to see it, but bravely resisted buying it (as well as the second season of The Simpsons).

You went to the store to see it?

Get help Simon. Please. For my sake.

Also, surely this is the most pointless thread ever? "I've bought a can of coke, but I haven't drunk it yet. Anyone else?"

As a kerazy idea, why don't you watch it Jeff? Eh?Watch it, and then tell us what you think. That way, some sort of interest is created. Yes. Go and do that now.

Heh, he comes back in 24 hours:

"Ok, I watched it....but it never moved or did anything interesting.
It just sat there on the shelf... staring at me, mocking me, with the sun glinting off its side.
What. I'm supposed to put the DVD in something?"

I'm disappointed that the DVD lacks a special feature with deleted scenes, like Sulu's promotion or the line about Saavik's heritage.

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

Wasn't Sulu's promotion seen so completely unsalvagable that they most likely scrapped it?

something like that.

I heard that twat Shatner crossed his eyes for fear of being shown up by a second banana like Takei.

Gotta love Shatner, man...

i heard that shatner's bald spot was showing.

I ordered the DVD from Amazon.com, but it hasn't shipped yet.

I saw a list of the features, though, and apparently they've added five minutes of footage to the movie. Would that qualify as "deleted scenes"? [Wink]

Shatner. I'd fight William Shatner.

I think the 5 minutes of extra footage means that the movie is the ABC TV version, with the extras stuff about Preston being Scotty's nephew, and Savik and Spock having a quick chat in Vulcan while Kirk tours the engine room.

Yes, the scene with Preston being Scotty's nephew is in the movie. The Vulcan chat is on the normal TWOK DVD too.

But the TMP Director's Cut for example had an extra DVD with all the scenes, they didn't use for the movie. I would have expected the same treatment for TWOK.

Just watched it with both commentaries on... I actually enjoyed Nick Meyer's commentary a lot, though Okuda's text didn't tell much that I didn't know already. I found it interesting that Meyer of all people wanted the ships to be silent in space shots... he always struck me before as the "make it exciting, screw believability" type. Although I don't rank him as an all-time great director, my respect for the man has risen, and I better understand why TWoK was the movie that it was.

The added Preston scenes, while nothing technically new, made the emotional impact of his death a great deal better, and I am gald to see they are back. There were a few other minor scenes added in that worked well, also, such as Spock wryly telling Saavik that "the human ego" is Khan's incentive to follow Enterprise into the nebula.

Another thing I enjoyed was the "Designing Khan" featurette... Joe Jennings seems like the coolest guy; not only does he know his Star Trek, he wants it to be believable.

An interview with Mr and Mrs Montalbahn about how they looked for potential sperm doners by measuring their man tits?

Khan was genetically engineered. Obviously there was more than one Mr. and Mrs. Montalbahn.

Is "Designing Kahn" anything like "Designing Women"!?! [Smile]

Oh, and over at the link to the TrekBBS about the topic (from trektoday.com) Someone there said that the Saavik origin scene has been seen at conventions etc. Is it on the net?

Andrew
