Daniel Berry has a website and a message board devoted to Star Trek books called BookTrek. He will be hosting a chat with Star Trek author Keith R. A DeCandido. Keith has written many cool Star Trek books and has also been editor for the Star Trek Corps of Engineers series and "Tales Of The Dominion War". The scheduled time is Staurday, October 30th at 4:00 GMT or if you live in the U.S. that would be 11:00AM EST.

A special invitation is extended to all Flare members to attend this fun event!

A direct link to the chat room can be found here by clicking the banner above.

As per this forum terms of service, this would be considered "SPAM", right? It's a shame.

I suppose in a sense it is....but would there be any complaints if it was, say...Nimoy or Sternbach or Okuda or someone of that sort having a chat at said website or any other?

Exhibit A: This is his first and only post.
Exhibit B: It has a frikkin banner in it.
Exhibit C: The general tone of this post and it's title is that of a commercial
Exhibit D: It has a FUCKING BANNER.

I put forward that this post indeed constitutes SPAM. Spam for good (?) things is still spam.

I wish Nimoy would unblock me on AIM. [Frown]

you're right. i wasnt trying to argue the issue...just give benefit of the doubt.

It certainly seems spammy, but I'm willing to believe some people might be interested in it. So I've removed the links. But I expect there's enough information left that someone could figure out where to go if they really want to.

LOL! Well he told me he won't unblock you on AIM until you move away from his bedroom window and stop stealing his paper. [Big Grin]

I think you're missing the point here, Alexander. If chumley shows his face here again it'll be a miracle. They spam, they leave.

Well he has been registered here for 4 months before making his attack...

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

. . . And then waited 4 months to make his first post. Be a while before he can attain the Status of 'Tim-Like.'

Sorry you guys feel I "made an attack" and "spammed" the site. I do come here and read posts although I may not post. I knew about the chat and "assumed" that Star Trek fans, which some of you are, would be interested to know of an event in which you could chat with a "popular" Star Trek author. I see other posts about impotanat Trek or other related events. What's the difference? Just because it was my first post?

I guess since BookTrek has another chat coming up with another popular author I won't bother posting about it here!

You guys are insensitive, mean and cruel!

Kevin

Nah. We're just highly skeptical. And insensitive, mean and cruel.

It's just.. we never heard of you, and you suddenly come up with banner and a link. How is that not spam?

If you just introduced yourself, and asked politely if we would be interested (meaning, NO banner), it might have worked.

So is there a rule about not having banners in your signature? I would think I could put any banner I want in my sig.

Kevin

Boo Hoo!
We're cruel!
(snicker)

What will we do without you, oh vital member of the Flare community?

Posted by Doctor Jonas (Member # 481) on :

It's called 'terms of service'. No exceptions. Read first, post later.

I'm sure you read this board all the time. And I'm sure you're such a long-term member of other boards, you've been a member of some of them since DARPAnet. But the fact remains you've still only made three posts, one where you spammed, one where you said surely it was OK for you to spam, and one where you said it was your ball and you're going home. Next!

Posted by Ktrek (Member # 1346) on :

OK...You guys just continue to make rude remarks but nobody offers to post a link where the board rules say that I can't have a banner in my signature nor inform members of upcoming Star Trek related events?

And Lee your interpretation of my posts is your right but I never said nor implied what you have said. I'm still here!

Kevin

Images in signatures are technically impossibe, IIRC, since the IMG tag doesn't work in a sig.

Ktrek, keep it up and you're banned. Being a new member and all and from what I hear of you putting on a BANNER of all things means most likely you're nothing but a spammer. Oh I wish I could throw you in Jail like those two people in the US.

You can whine or bitch all you want, but the policy is simple: NO SPAM.

Where is the link? In the TOS that you clicked on and said "I Agree". NO SPAM.

Topic locked.
