So, who saw Shatner's roast on Comedy Central last night? I thought most of it was genuinely funny and not forced, although I can't figure out if Farrah Faucet was acting or actually totally blitzed. I do agree with Jason Alexander's statment that they had the "Who's That?" of comedy there.

Nichele Nichols and George Takei were there, and Nimoy phoned it in. The only one conspicuously absent was Walter Koenig, but I'm not completely suprised there. I thought he was over it, but not completely I guess.

When they showed the clips of Shatner singing, though, I was like a deer in headlights, unable to look away! Especially that one song where he kept repeating "Keep it gay!"

I noticed that Jerri Ryan, Brent Spiner and Rene Auberjonois were in the audience, but didn't participate. I do wish they had more people actually involved with his shows doing the roasting, but I guess it's hard to get a Trek writer to be funny! [Big Grin]

I had every intention of watching this all week, but when the time finally came around I forgot all about it. [Frown]

I wish they had gotten Spiner or Wheaton up there. Stewart would've been wonderful, though is probably an unreasonable thing to have hoped for.

I'm surprised that no one's bit included anything about which is the better captain.

Did you notice Rene Auberjonois' reaction shots whenever they cut to him? Apparently he was LOVING it.

Most of it seemed pretty much the regular clich stuff you expect from one of these things. I mean, just how many "Andy Dick is gay" jokes do we need? Also, most of the funny stuff was already played over and over in the commercials.

I did like Betty White, though. And Shatner's rebuttal at the end.

Also : I think Farrah Fawcett's "I don't know what I'm doing here" routine was scripted (obviously). However, the fact that she couldn't even get through her lines was, I'm sure, not.

Well I didn't see no commercials you heartless bastard, I'm watching it right now on the CC website. Anyone have a spare login password to see the uncensored bits? Want to see it all now. I've only ever seen Leary's roast before, and I thought that was good.

I...just watched Takei get snogged at the podium, the look on Shatner's face was funny.

Hopefully, The Comedy Network will pick this up. Sometime in the next decade if I'm lucky.

What was Andy Dick's problem. He was acting like a real...dick. He interrupted Patton Oswald to lick Carrie Fisher and Farrah Fawcett. Though that vicodin competition with Chewbacca joke was funny as well as the forum joke.

I thought the point of a roast was to make fun of the guy you're roasting. Instead, it seems like everyone flattered Shatner and roasted Takei.

I'm an improv comic, so insult comedy such as in the roast really isn't my thing. Still, this was fun to watch, though most of the jokes were at the expense of people I really didn't know or care for. Had more Trek or Boston Legal or TJ Hooker people been roasting, I think it would have been more relevant - though Jason and Andy, plus Sarah Silverman, were all on Voyager... The one sci-fi nerd went over some very tired jokes (especially on Carrie Fisher, who overall didn't seem impressed one bit) that weren't funny at all.

As for Andy Dick, as a formerly married man who has had at least three kids with two partners, he's not doing very well on the gay front (he's "openly bisexual", according to Wiki). No small wonder he looked genuinely pissed, though it's more thank likely just a choice. [Razz]

Oh, and George Takei kicks ass. They all know it's a two-hour gag, but he took all those gay bashing jokes in stride. And you don't expect him to be the sort fo guy to do insult comedy, but he managed. No surprise that they gave him his full time then, while Nichelle was cut short...

Yeah, and now I understand what that Rocketman joke on Family Guy was about... It was Stewie bascially doing the same thing except without the lame video editting. [Smile]
