Ok, so I saw a copy of Legacy PC at Futureshop today, and I'm wondering if anyones played it?

I thought about buying it on impulse, but I decided to try to find some info on the game. Like how it plays, is it a point and click affair like Armada, or is it more like Bridge Commander?

Well if you can get pass the bugs, the fact that the game is incomplete and missing some levels, the fact that the controls are messed up and can't be changed, and that you really can't select the ships the enemy AI will use in skirmish, then yeah its a great game.

I know I was disappointed too, but it's not worth it.

Played it on PC and Xbox360. The game definatly plays better with the 360 controler.

It's still horribly lacking though. I'll stick with my super-moded copy of Bridge Commander for now

Yeah, So I went to the store and found Legacy in the bargain bin. That's pretty bad considering the games only been out a month or so. So I picked it up for $19.99 and I thought what the hell.

Oh My God, does this game ever suck...

The AI for you're computer controlled fleet is dumb, they don't follow you when you warp across the map, they don't shoot the enemy, if you switch to them and manually give them a target, they still don't shoot. They just sit there and get shot at while you're being swarmed by a dozen enemy ships.

When you target an enemy, the camera will lock onto them for a second then you have to press space bar over and over and over again to finally keep the lock. Sometimes you'll switch to a completely different ship than the one you want to shoot at.

Why doesn't Bethesda ever finish thier games before they release them? Once again another piss poor Star Trek game that falls well short of the promises made by the developer. They probably spent all thier devolpment budget paying for Bakula, Shatner, Stewart, Mulgrew, and Brooks to do a few lines from a terrible script.

I'd totally return this game, but a guy at work offered to buy it for $30. His loss.

Did you even look at the backgrounds for the levels? One level has a scene from Star Trek Insurrection as its background

Truly as disgrace.

Haven't bought it - probably won't after hearing all this... it's gotta have some good points... can you list them? Maybe in some weird off chance someone from those companies reds this board!?! LOL! You never know.

What are those other two ships that are with the Enterprise - in the top left of the screen - the Intrepid? What is the other?

Good points? Well, the game has a lot of promise, it would have been a really awesome game if not for the problems.

I suppose if you can get a decent dogfight happening then the game has a really cool star trek feel to it. More so than with a few other trek games. I'd say the fact that they have the original actors doing the voicework and not some soundalikes is pretty good. Stewart did a great job as always. Although Mulgrew and Brooks only get featured in one mission each.

Some people found the story to be a little choppy, but I figured it out pretty well, and it's not too bad. The graphics were pretty good. I wouldn't call them "next gen" as they are claimed to be. Klingon Academy had better damage effects. It is still pretty cool to see the Enterprise all blasted to hell with holes in the hull and scorch marks all over.

I suppose if Bethesda and MadDoc get off thier behinds and make some patches to the game (they've already made two patches to fix the multiplayer that was broken when the game was released, but not many people are satisfied).

Also, the game would have been much better if they took some time to make the PC version a little different from the console. The tutorial even tells you to click the left stick to set a heading. Left stick WTF?

The cloak effect is pretty cool too.

Those two ships, the one on the right is called a Minuteman destroyer, and the other was called the poseidon I think...

Star Trek Legacy makes you feel like your playing a good game without actually playing a good game. If you want some high points, there have been some mods out for the game which improve it drastically.

http://legacy.filefront.com/ (good legacy site but currently its experiencing some problems)

They're pretty much done the updating for filefront. Not many awesome mods yet. Mostly I'm hoping for Bethesda or Mad-Doc to release a program similar to The Elder Scrolls Construction Kit. So the modding community can fix the problems themselves. Much the same as what's been done with Oblivion, as that is another game that was released without being thoroughly bug tested.

Like I said before, if the developers take the time to fix all the issues then it may very well be a worthy Star Trek game. One we haven't seen since Klingon Academy and BOTF (That was a pretty good game IMO.)
