Ok, so I know Star Trek 5 is 'Drama non grata' but I was re-watching the whole series (this is how I roll) and I noticed something odd when Kirk was fighting that Tiger-chick in the cantina scene. The sound effects from when she's mauling him sound JUST like James Brown wailing on 'I feel good'

Did anyone else notice this, or is it just me?

Oh, I noticed. Sound engineers like to throw in stuff like that.
On the other hand, if memory serves they had just knocked into a jukebox, so maybe that's where it was supposed to come from.

It's nice to know that the Godfather of Soul's music will survive to the 23rd century. However, Britney's got him beat: Her stuff survives to the year 5 billion. Too bad she probably won't survive the next six months.

LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE...! *sniff*

I liked how the stripper's long imitation of cat-hissing, while hanging from Kirk's back, came out more like sounds of aggressive flatulence.

Oh, and the way Kirk bitchslaps a guard into submission on the stairs, magic.

I was just thinking how Star Trek V was my favorite of the Trek movies when I was around 7 or 8. And I haven't seen it since I was about 12 so consequently I've never been quite sure what all the (negative) fuss was about...Gene apparently considered it apocryphal, the fans all seem to hate it, but well... what about it was that bad?

Mostly technical stuff, nonsense science, shoddy effects and Spock having a brother.

Despite all that, I think it has some of the BEST character interaction of any Trek movie and I blame that squarely on Shatner's direction and the good chemistry between him, Nimoy and Kelly.
If you like you can just ignore the plot and pretend it's all a bourbon and beans induced dream.

The characters in TFF do indeed feel most like the characters from TOS compared to the other films.

I find it somewhat disturbing that the initial poster thinks the cat lady was trying to rape Kirk, though... [Eek!]

Well, if there's anything I learned watching the exploits of Captain James T Kirk, it's that women want him. All women everywhere, all the time... even the green ones.
