The link below contains spoilers for the upcoming episode "Doctor's Orders."

I'm not imagining this, am I? This doesn't read just like the Voyager episode "One" does it? Earlier details on this ep here:

What're you talking about? Porthos is still awake in this one! Isn't it obvious that it's going to be a completely different story?

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

Of course, silly me. . . 8)

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

Wait, "One" wasn't the episode with everyone in stasis. "One" was the one with the 29th C Borg.

Posted by Krenim (Member # 22) on :

No, "Drone" was the one with the 29th Century Borg. "One" was the one with everyone in stasis.

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

The 29th Century Borg was called One. I did check before I started this thread, you know.

Posted by Omega (Member # 91) on :

So they had an episode called "Drone" about One, and an episode called "One" about a former Drone?

Dang, even Voyager's episode titles were bad. How many were just one word, anyway? These people need some lessons from Farscape and B5...

Posted by Cartman (Member # 256) on :

Well, they could have called "Drone" A Tragedy Of Borg and "One" The Very Long Night Of Everyone But Seven, but somehow I doubt it would've improved the episodes much. B)

Posted by Nim (Member # 205) on :

Did B5 ever make an episode called "Chasing Shadows"?
Or is it some other show?

Posted by Cartman (Member # 256) on :

Off the top of my head, no. I recall The Geometry of Shadows, The Coming of Shadows, and Shadow Dancing, but no episode with "Chasing" in its title...

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

I'm pretty sure there was just a big hat with "Shadows", "Movements", "Light" and "Darkness" written on pieces of paper inside it, and JMS just picked them at random.

Seriously, B5 had good titles? That's worse more mistaken than any political statement you've ever had.

Andromeda's last cool thing was its long, complex, and very cool episode titles. Shame that they have little to do with the actual episodes anymore.

I think it's a B&B thing that they want to have one-word titles. Personally, I hate it. Whatever happened to titles like "For the World Is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky"? Or "The Changing Face of Evil"? Hell, even two-word titles like "Dark Page" or "Yesterday's Enterprise" were cooler than what we've got now...

Everyone passed out from lack of oxygen before they'd finished saying it?

And of course, one word titles is just the latest in a long line of henious crimes that Berman and Braga, and ONLY THEM, have done to Trek. They are evil.

But, (and god knows why I'm doing this), let's actually have a look at the evidence:

Enterprise season 1: 18 titles that are two or more words, with two of those being of the "The something" variety.

Enterprise season 2: 14 titles that are two or more words, with 6 of those being of the "The Something" variety.

So, out of 26 episodes, less than half of both those seasons had one word titles.

Now, let's compare that to two random seasons of TNG:

Season 1: 20 titles that are two or more words, with 6 of those being "The something".

Season 6: 15 titles that are two or more words, with 2 of those being "The something".

So, what have we learned? One, that Trek series seem to use more one word titles as the seasons go on, and 2, Braga had already started his evil one word title policy by season 6 of TNG. He must be stopped.

Andromeda! I knew I was forgetting one. As for B5, Straczynski deserves more credit. "Sleeping in Light", "The Deconstruction of Falling Stars", "And The Rock Cried Out, 'No Hiding Place'", "A Late Delivery From Avalon"... of course, B5 did have a few one-word titles. "Grail" and "Infection" come to mind. OW! MY MIND!!!!

What was "The Changing Face of Evil" from?

Posted by PsyLiam (Member # 73) on :

Although DS9 did have some great titles. Just compare all three series finale episode titles. "All Good Things..." is a really good title, that Dawson's Creek also used (was TNG the first to use it?). "What You Leave Behind" is also good, although not quite as great as the TNG effort.

And for Voyager, we get "Endgame", one of the oldest and most cliched episode titles out there.

But, er, what were we talking about again?

Posted by Lee (Member # 393) on :

"The Changing Face of Evil" was DS9, BTW. Perhaps we should have a thread for The Best Ever Episode Title, Ever. I'm not sure what my vote would be, but I just love the Futurama title "Roswell That Ends Well." 8)

I always thought the Voyager finale should be called "The Long and Winding Road." I'm not sure why. Don't think there's ever been a Beatles reference in Trek. . .

"B5 did have a few one-word titles."

And because I am just DYING to one-up Liam:

S1:
Infection
Believers
Survivors
TKO
Grail
Eyes
Legacies
Chrysalis

S2:
Revelations
GROPOS
Knives

S3:
Convictions
Exogenesis
Walkabout

S4:
Epiphanies
Atonement
Endgame

See anything as egregious as "One" there, Beard Boy? Eh? EH? Didn't think so. Well, except "Endgame", but at least JMS can be forgiven for his lapse in creativity. B)

They'll probably start doing episode titles:

"A"
"B"
"C"
"D"

etc.

Or... they can stop naming episodes altogether, a'la "Friends". [Smile]

And yes... thread name pretty much sums what I thought about "Dear Doctor" episode idea.

I guess they run out of good episodes to ste... um, "pay homage to", so they are switching to bad ones...

Although "One" wasn't that bad, wasn't it? [Big Grin]

Posted by Mucus (Member # 24) on :

Hmmm,
Along with Friends, Nikita had fun with the whole episode naming thing.
IIRC, their episode titles had as many words in them as the current season.
e.g. one word for season 1, two words for season 2, etc.

Not knowing much about the show, I hope they didn't get to season 7 or anything [Wink]

Blackadder The Third also imitated Jane Austin novels, with titles like "Dish and Dishonesty".

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

Well, specifically, two Jane Austen novels.

(As opposed to the celebrated western novelist, Jane Austin. I'll bet that webpage is extremely funny if you are a huge 19th century literature nerd.)

Do you just have a huge list of web-pages like this stored just in case a semi-humorous situation arises?

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

I came across it while doublechecking my knowledge of Jane Austen novels, which is, on its own, limited to knowing that she wrote some.

Suuuuuuure you did.

Getting back to the original topic of "Doctor's Orders," it seems that this episode is going to get much, much worse. [Roll Eyes]

Phlox Bares All -- he's going to be running around the ship for a lot of the show sans clothing.

Now, I don't mind the occasional gratuitous shots to "spice" things up a bit -- it's a long-running Trek tradition, after all. And I can't object to equal-opportunity gender exploitation, really.

But come on, now. Is John Billingsley really someone the viewers want to see naked? IMO that toenail scene from the execrable "A Night In Sickbay" was already more than enough to bear. I don't really think we need more of that!

(Flare really needs to add a few more emoticons, like a "sick" icon... Because I feel like I'm going to puke. Ugh.)
