Last night I had a thought [yes strange things happen every day].

No doubt this Enterprise crew is going to have some amazing adventures, but lets hope it's nothing too amazing as no one in the future [other trek shows]has ever mentioned any of their voyages!

Yes, they can't save Earth or the Federation.
Probably much like the original Enterprise: mining rights, medical supplies, simple exploration.

I dunno. If you spent 500 hours listening to the conversations on a modern aircraft carrier and didn't hear about some dude called "Ferdinand Magellan" does that mean he didn't do anything remotely important?

Not like we've heard of EVERY single incident when Kirk & Co. saved Earth & the Federation during TNG/DS9/VOY dialogue, did we?

Posted by Xanthi (Member # 576) on :

I'm not saying we should have heard their life stories told in other trek shows, I'm just saying if they did anything truly remarkable someone, sometime, would have mentioned it. Like they have mentioned Kirk and co before.
This is supposed to be the beginning of a great moment in history, I just would have thought someone would have mentioned it is all. [it's not like we dont really know why no one ever mentioned it before ]
Just a point. Anyway, i'm not going to bag it anymore, it at least deserves a chance.

In all honesty, most of the occasions when previous crews' adventures have been mentioned, it's sounded rather contrived. . .

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

I think that's because, every time some big event is mentioned, it's about them. If some anomaly is encountered, it's either "The computer records say such-and-such about it..." or "Once, Captain Picard and the Enterprise encountered one of these...". We never hear "Once, Captain Foo and the USS Pleh encountered one of these...".

Posted by Vogon Poet (Member # 393) on :

Exactly! And when they DO try to mention other ships' adventures, they cock it up! Like the Borg encounters involving Captain Amisov (of the Endeavour? Can't find it on my ship list), or the Excalibur. . .

I'll be looking forward to the various first contacts with other species, and I think it will be interesting to see the Federation and Starfleet develop in terms of technology etc.

Like the sig, TSN.

This is pretty moronic. Lets sacrifice how spectacular a show because we couldnt incorperate it into older shows 30 years before it...

The concept of enterprise came up around a year and a half ago... even then the pilot was only completed months ago..

REMINDER:
Enterprise will be set 50 years before the founding of the Federation and Starfleet. You won't see their development at all.

Posted by Xanthi (Member # 576) on :

[Now that you mention it that is a pretty funny signature, never really took much notice before.]

As for Enterprise, I'm going to refrain from further bagging. Its just the more I think about it the more problems I think of, so I'm gonna stop thinking so much

Well, don't count on the Enterprise 'changing' with any new technology over the course of the series... we've all seen how Voyager looks EXACTLY as clean and pristene as the day she left space dock...

Hi, this is my first time (just registered and all)!

I just wanted to say that I agree with The_Tom, that just because it wasn't mentioned doesn't mean it wasn't important. I mean, the various crews have been a little preoccupied with their own adventures. Plus, when they talk to the computer, they're looking for information relevant to their situations. Maybe nothing that will be done in Enterprise was relevant. (Interesting use of verb tenses in that last sentence there.)

But that's just me, faithfully defending Star Trek, hehe. There are, of course, always hitches and flaws in TV shows, especially in ones as involved as ST. I like to think that we fans are obligated to find and complain about as many of them as we can, then defend them against non-fans. (Maybe it's just me...?)

My signature is funny? It certainly wasn't meant to be...

Welcome to the board TrekkiEternal. Yes, they may have done something interesting that no one bothered to mention in the previous 3 series or movies, but they have a 7 year run and no doubt during some of that time, you'd think they'd do something historical.
Anyhow, I was more on the "future of the Trek universe" angle than going back in time to pre-BOTF and mucking with history so I'm probably a little biased, although I will give it a chance.

No one said it was funny.

Someone said they "liked" it.

"Now that you mention it that is a pretty funny signature, never really took much notice before."

No-one said what, now?

Thanks for the welcome, TLE!

Yah, I thought setting it in the past was a little odd. Guess there won't be any more crossover possibilities (with the exception, of course, of the annual quota of time traveling).

I hope it's good. I'm disappointed that they haven't really given us much of a preview in the TV commercials. I want to see teasers, not just read about/find out about them online.

I hope we're not all just going to watch for good-looking cast members. (I know that's what one of my friends is doing in regards to Scott Bakula, the soon-to-be captain. And I've read somewhere here at Flare about a good-looking Vulcan T'Pau or something like that.) Focusing on Seven in
Voyager was bad enough...

One of your friends is casting Scott Bakula in their television show because they think he's hot? Huh.

Simon: Um... What? What he said made sense. What you said didn't...

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

It makes much more sense when the first part reads "I hope they're not just going to cast for good-looking cast members..."

Not a great deal more. And the question of why you would want to read it that way would, if answered, provide a fair amount of insight into my internal psychology.

Yeah, and we all know Paramont doesn't get it's cast members for sex appeal or ratings boosts *coughs*Jeri Ryan*coughs*

I thought it was funny, but I have a pretty strange sense of humour
Accept my praise, I dont hand it out too often [and I didn't mean it in an offensive way]!

Werd. I laughed, too...even knowing Tim-san's predicament.

Posted by TSN (Member # 31) on :

Hm... Yes, I suppose my sig can be funny, if you're not living it...

"Simon: Um... What? What he said made sense. What you said didn't..."

Um, TSN, was that "he" me? (And is Simon Sol System?)

"Yeah, and we all know Paramont doesn't get it's cast members for sex appeal or ratings boosts *coughs*Jeri Ryan*coughs*"

LOL TLE!

Trekki: Yes, we are well aware of your gender. However, in order to allow the moderators to insert hidden coded messages from one to another in their posts, the odd letter has to disappear.

And the star system in which we live has been named Simon for a good twenty years or so.

TSN> I guess so. Have you loved and lost recently? It's none of my business I know :-)

Curiousity gets the better of me! I have NO self control.

I think Tim & I get the award for having the suck-assest love lives in the forum. Although methinks that with my reconciliation with Heather (yeah, I know that was quick...but..bonds...yeah.), he's gonna take the lead.

I look forward to making my own announcement to be cheerfully tanked with miserabality.

*enormous yank of thread rudder*
I hope the opening credits and little movie of ST:E will be different from the others, but not too different.
If they show the faces of the actors, laughing, sitting on a spin chair and turning from profile to face the camera, I'll be mucho naughty in the head.

Hmm you haven't heard my story yet! I bet I'd probably win.

That earlier "he" was actually a "he/she/it" that apparently got lost in the translation bewteen my brain and my fingers...

I already explained my... predicament... here once. I don't remember where. Someone else can point to it. Honestly, I don't care much to explain it again...

Perhaps the entire series will wrap up with one of Braga's enevitable time-loop thingies and all of their adventures and history will simply be swept aside as a different time-line.
