Tonight, there is a documentary on the RMS Titanic. The narrator said the ship sank 100 years ago. This is an exagerration. RMS Titanic sank 87 years ago.
Could Cmdr Riker be doing the same when speaking about the USS Hathaway?

Well, the narrator probably said 100 years because it's easier to remember round numbers. Kinda like in the TNG novel 'Debtor's Planet', Data said a probe cost 7.5 million credits or something or other and Ambassador Offenhouse said for negotiating with the Ferengi it'd be 10 million. Given the fact that the narrator exaggerated by 13 years, the Hathaway would be anywhere from 65-80 years old. by the registry, I'd say it was around 70-75 years old.
