It's about the same as what it was when they launched it.

I've said it was nice, and I think in one of the movies it was called Beautiful, but I'm not sure.

To borrow a skill from Ultra Magnus...

The Soveriegn-CLass Starship RULZ!!1 It is so COOL a DeSIGN that IT could take on Babbleon 5, the Executor, and the Battlestr Gallactika ALL BY ITSELF! WHAT A SHIP, DUDES!

It has like 747 Crumembers and 50000 photon torpedos1 AND IT HAS 75000 Quadtum torps and tricobalt bombs! THE ENTERPRISE-E AND ALL SOVERGN SHIPS ARE DA BOMB!

Now, for conventional wisdom...

We haven't a flipping idea about anything really detailed about the Sovereign-class starships. But it sure a cute little ship.

The cutaway poster (which has spent the past 2 years rolled up in an old UPS tube with all my other posters) says something like 800 or so.

IMHO, 800 sounds a little too high.

I mean, think of the overall size of the vessel and what we've seen of it so far.

Looks like a heluva lot of equipment, technology, systems in general, you name it.
Also, the interior space is much smaller than that of a Galaxy class vessel. And keep in mind that there are supposed to be no families on board. Would they need 800 crewmen and officers just to operate that ship?

The Ent-D had a crew complement of ~1000 (including families!) at an interior volume of at least twice the size. I would think a Sovereign class ship (without families) would need a standard crew complement of around 500 people.

500 seems to be the best as the Galaxy's complement would be about 600 without families.

We don't know how many civilians were on the Enterprise-D... It was never specified. However, I've argued here before that given the number of kids we've seen when they're all together (specifically in "When the Bough Breaks" and "Rascals", with other examples too), there aren't that many family units on board. My own estimate is that there's less than a hundred actual *non-Starfleet personel* who are crew.

And it's not like the Enterprise-E isn't big enough for a crew of 850 - it's huge! Remember that the average aircraft carrier is manned by over 5000 people when at sea.

In Rascals, they kept the childern who were in the general ages in one room. Molly was kept at the nursery with the other babies. I'm sure the Ferengi sent down the older teens to toil with the adults.

As for the crew compliment of the Enterprise-D, doesn't the technical manual say that the compliment went around 800 Starfleet personnel and roughly 200 civilians.

I'm sure the Enterprise-E would hold around 800 Starfleet personnel; there are crew bunks...

However, in "When the Bough Breaks", the Aldeans too everyone under 14 (Wesley's age, and he was the oldest person there), which was a total of maybe half a dozen people. So unless there are lots of 15-18 year-olds on board...
