Does anyone have any idea what the origin of this ship name is? Perhaps something from within Trek, like ShirKahr?

Looks like your average Vulcan male name to me. Well, before Taurik and Tuvok, and the like.

I still wonder if the ship isn't the Seatac. Well, not really.

In the one of first episodes of DS9 season 6 there was two admirals who Sisko had to run his plans past, a Human male and a Vulcan female. the male was called Admiral Coburn and the female was called admiral Sitak. Not sure if it helps but I thought that it was relevant.

Well I'm not sure but I don't think they would name a ship after a living admiral. Perhaps it was named for one of her ancestors.

The episode with Admiral Sitak was "Favor the Bold," right before "Sacrifice of Angels." Perhaps her mother or father had the same name and was an important ambassador or something?

Maybe she was killed and it was named in her honour?

Or maybe she was just a narcisistic Vulcan admiral, who made some poor person in a suit go out and paint a new name on the hull, in honour of herself.

I always thought that was strange too, but I also am pretty sure that the Vulcan female admiral in "Favor the Bold" was named Sitak -- the same as a ship in the next episode.

It does seem strange that a ship would be named for a living admiral, but then, isn't the US Navy launching the USS Ronald Reagan sometime soon? He's still alive...

TPTB seem to always have name themes going on too.. (im thinking how challenging it is to come up with a million made up words all the time)

Ro's name was Laren, a couple weeks later it was transposed to become Neral in Unification.. there was a fascination for phonetic variants of Chakotay for a few weeks on both DS9 and TNG with Admiral Chekote or whatever.. so it probably just that those were the sounds that were stuck in the producer's heads for a while.

Maybe the ship and the admiral were named after a famous and dead Vulcan.

How do Vulcan parents choose names for their children? What's the logical way to go about that task?

*random thought* perhaps birth is another one of those times the Vulcans are unable to be 100% logical. Makes sense, because there is a biological need for the mother (and perhaps the father) to be emotionally conncected to their offspring.

Is there really - with Vulcans I mean? And what about the act itself? I always thought some feelings had to be involved in that.

Are Vulcans really THAT unemotional as to see it just as an act of preserving their race?

I don't think so. I remembered that being brought up before, but I checked and according to Bjo Trimble's Concordance that should be "Sitar" not "Sitak." Also, it was once mentioned that a "Koraga" (like the Klingon ship) was mentioned in the ep, but that's actually "Kazanga."

"Setec Astronomy" anagram for "Too Many Secrets", from the fun Redford spy movie "Sneakers."

Didn't Sisko say 'Tell the Majestic and Sitak to cover us!', something like that? Maybe he was referring to the Majestic and Admiral Sitak's ship, or Sitak aboard the Majestic. As far as we know, the second Miranda didn't have a name or regirstry. [Big Grin]

They also mentioned the Centaur (or Reynolds?), so maybe the Sitak-reference was only a small continuity-booster. Maybe they even had a larger role for her but it was cut back to one scene. On the other hand, Sitak could really be only the average vulcan name.
