I have recently extended the starship database, and it occured to me that the two Talarian ships (the observation craft and the warship) are two completely different designs (at least, to me this is new). The warship seems to be indeed based on the Star Destroyer, albeit heavily modified. The observation craft was built from scratch, based on Rick Sternbach's sketch (The Continuing Mission).

Here the observation craft:

and my revision of the Fact Files depiction:

Looking at the picture of the Observation Craft, I'm wondering if that model was made from the fuselage of an X-wing fighter -- the "nose" section looks similar to the fighter's main body... I think.

What is the Length of this ship?

One Frank.

Observation craft: 150m = 1.25 FSDL (Frank standard Defiant length)
Warship: 220m

The tapered section of the observation craft looks like it could be taken from a kit, but the X-Wing nose has different proportions.

"FSDL"..ha...

By the way, Bernd, a little OT, but I was looking through the Delta Quadrant ships listing in your SD & that Malon model ship you mention is in fact the original study model of Zephram Cochrane's warpship as built for the Chronology Mk. I sans nacelles & pylons.

It looks really like that. I didn't know there was a physical model, as I thought it was a painting.

Even more OT.. but something I just have to say after reading your rant on the "Unexpected" battlecruiser.

The latest Magazine (the one with the Excelsior study models) has behind the scenes info on this episode.

There WAS a CGI model made of the sketch that appeared on Trekweb. But after initial renders, the model proved to be too dark to be of any use. And since everyone had already worked really long days on Broken Bow, no-one was willing to sit up all night adding lights and windows to the model. So instead, they decided to use the VOY model and hope the fans wouldn't be too angry with them.

So there really wasn't anything they could've done about it. The episode was already filmed, it needed Klingon visuals, and the closest thing they had was the VOY battlecruiser. We could always pretend that we actually saw the ship from the sketch [Wink]

Yes. I was going to include that information. Actually, I am quite content with the explanation that we have seen something we were not supposed to see. And I am glad that the responsible people
1) cared to create a new ship at all.
2) admitted that the K't'inga was not fitting.

I'm glad I'm so famous. [Smile]

Hopefully they'll have the presence of mind to fix the mesh in the mean time for the next time a Klingon Battlecruiser needs to be seen, it's the correct one.
