Hi! Can someone help. I was wondering about the history of the Stargazer, mainly about the Captains. Dose any one know how many Captains did the Stargazer had and the years they had command, including books.

I haven't read the Stargazer novels, but the Stargazer never made an appearance in any of the books I've read. On screen, it should have been at least two: Picard himself (2333-2355 IIRC) and the unnamed captain before himwho was killed, leading to Picard's takeover.

Given that the Stargazer was a contemporary of the Reliant, I think it's safe to say that the ship most likely had several COs before Picard.

PS - They call me "Lieutenant Obvious" because I'm not always so obvious like this. Not always.

According to the Stargazer novels the captain of the Stargazer before Picard is Captain Daithan Ruhalter (or something close). He commanded the Stargazer from its commissioning, IIRC.

Let me guess, he was one of the numerous, human-looking, long-lived races we see all the time on Trek?
Did he know Kirk? But of course!

Snay, glad you got it (finally!), I realised that thet ship's stand is now the hull for a KLingon ship I'm almost done with.

Didn't Michael Jan Friedman have the Stargazer used or flashbacked to in at least a couple of his books? Was Valiant one of them?

I know he had one where Picard met up with some of his old Stargazer crewmates. I believe it also featured a Starfleet dolphin that moved around the ship in a small tank, or something.

In the Stargazer series of books, which starts with "The Valiant", Captain Ruhalter is the captain of the Stargazer from its commissioning (which is like only a year or so from the time the book is set in, which is a bit loopy) and then is killed during an attack which also puts the first officer in a coma, leaving Picard, the second officer, in command.

Michael Jan Friedman also states that, besides having the Stargazer being a new ship as of the 2330's, the New Orleans class ships are outdated & inferior to the Constellation class.

Knowledgable about Star Trek ships he is not.

I read like this one book and it was a murder mystery and it was all whodunnit. Michael Jan Friedman pens a surprise twist, and it turns out to be an evil twin.

So, I mean, he's a good author, despite his Starship knowledge.

Yeah, and then he took the plot of "Reunion", changed Picard to Sisko, and did the whole thing OVER AGAIN for the DS9 book "Saratoga." Bleh.

That's the only TNG novel I have, it is also the only one I've ever read... I think it's great, but I've never heard another opinion on it, while we've diverted to it for a moment, anyone have an opinion?

I like it - gave some history to Picard and was a good story all the way through. [Smile]
