I really like how the tactical consoles blend into the forward consoles on this one. I assume the "ship schematic" is like that transparent display we saw in "Parallels".

Okay, it looks really good -- but I've got to request a few changes...

Captain Macy sat in the command chair on the bridge. The layout of the bridge was set around the command chair. Ops and Conn controls were at the front of the bridge, with two freestanding stations to either side of the command chair: the Tactical/Security post, and a Ship's Ops station. Lining the bridge were stations for Damage Control, Mission Ops, Engineering, Medical, Enviormental, and Science, as well as a redundent Tactical.

a) The two consoles behind the CO should be Tactical and Ship Operations. (Redundent Tactical should be on the side)

b) The two consoles behind Ops/Conn should be eliminated.

Other than that, I think it's a GREAT bridge ... hmmm, actually maybe I'll use this as the new bridge module the Tokyo'll get after her refit in a coming ep

Looks good. Those consoles around the command area are a cool concept, and I love the idea of a transparent ship's schematic!

But do you people not understand?! Turbolifts are BIG! Take a chair, and multiply its width by 5. That should be about 10 feet. Take a compass and using this distance, draw in the turbolift. Draw them in so that you know if you've got room for doors nearby! Those doors that lead to the bathrooms will never get there because the turbolifts are in the way.

Aesthetics are nice. Practicality is better. If the bathrooms look beautiful, that's all well and good but pointless if no one can get to them.

Doors too, must have a place to go when they slide. The doors they usually use on bridges we see are about 3 feet wide. If they are double sliding, that means at least 1.5 feet leeway on each side for door pockets. If it's a single piece, then you need 3 feet to one side. If they open up and down, then you've got to make sure they have 3.5 feet (and a wall to slide into) above and below.

Again, I would like to point out the idea of ergonomics. Standing induces stress. IMHO, only minor consoles, (damage control, environmental engineering, gravity control, redundant panels), should not have chairs simply because they are not required to be manned at all times. At most, I think they should be checked once an hour by the officer of the deck during cruise mode. Only during alert situations do they require crew manning them full time.

Stations that should be manned at all times such as science, engineering, communications, security, tactical, mission operations, helm/nav, should have chairs for safety reasons and stress reduction.

On present day warships, few people on the bridge actually sit. A bridge isn't like a collection of cubicles, but a place where all the action happens.

I've said before, they went for seven years on the E-D without chairs for the tactical officer. They finally get them for "Generations", and what happens? The ship gets shot down! Could those chairs have contributed to tac officer response and stuff? I certainly think so.

Plus, standing people give a nice distinction from people sitting - it looks cooler.

And how long has it been since our present day warships have been in actual bridge rocking ship-to-ship combat? (Just kidding) I do agree that it looks cool to have people stand on the bridge, but in my mind, it just doesn't make sense. Again, I find practicality outweighs coolness. But everyone is of course entitled to their own opinions.
