This would firt in real nice as a mix of teh Akira and the Sovvie...

can't wait to see three views, Lobo. like always, your design is very very promising.

Nice. Very nice. Very.

Or put another set of nacelles below her and make her an Intrepid/Constellation/Akira mix.

Posted by Bernd (Member # 6) on :

I'm a bit confused. Akira is retro-developed to NX-01, NX-01 is further developed to neo-NX-01?

But it is an excellent sketch, a ship that would *really* continue the design lineage of NX-01 if there were no Akira. I appreciate how you have avoided using certain details like the raised double hulls sticking out from the main hull, and how you have added details from other ships of the time, like the Intrepid cut-out. Further developments (or retro-developments) of a design need style changes while maintaining the overall shape, and not slavish reproduction of details.

Posted by Cartman (Member # 256) on :

Extremely sleek. Reminds me of the TOSsified Intrepid class... I like how you've given this ship the opposite treatment [Smile]

Posted by Shik (Member # 343) on :

That would be a fun ship to build. Show it to some resin casters, maybe they'll be willing.

Posted by Lobo (Member # 669) on :

Ok here is the side view of the ship.
I hope you like it.

This is a neat ship, but, from my purely selfish point of view, which is not at all artistically inclined and so should not be listened to, the little secondary hull-like bulge doesn't quite fit. And I can't see where the hangy-down bit inbetween the nacelles is. I would think you could go the Steamrunner route, and pull it down a bit more and put the deflector there.

Or, you know, not.

!!!

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet...

This ship is freaking fantastic Lobo! I love it, a real beaut.

Forget the Ent era. Update a few details and make it a Nova/Sov contemporary. Besides the lifboats you have on there are from the Sovereign...

Posted by The_Tom (Member # 38) on :

I think the intent was a Nova/Sovvie contemporary.

And, um, I love it. A lot. I hereby confer "the-man"-hood on Lobo.

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

That is a really awesome ship. However, I would hav to concur with Simon in that the little secondary hull bulge doesn't look right. A hanging deflector la Steamrunner would be very fitting for this ship.

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

Coool. Does it have a dropship? I'm going to side with the voice of reform and agree that the secondary hull is out of place. However, I'm not sure about the dropy-down-steamrunner-deflector-thingy... I think it would have to hang too far down in order to clear the saucer. It might not look that good if it had to drop that far. You might try the Nova route and put the main deflector in the saucer section.

Posted by Lobo (Member # 669) on :

Thanks!

I agree with Aban an Streamrunner like deflector wouldn't look right on the ship!

So to the secundary hull is that what u mean?

I think it looks too NX 01 like now or not?

Lobo

Now that looks better.

I'm with Topher, near perfect now.

Actually, Lobo, I think you're right when you say it looks too NX-01ish at the moment. I didn't mind the bulge, for what it's worth.

Posted by Magnus de Pym (Member # 239) on :

Nothing!

Posted by Lobo (Member # 669) on :

I think i make the two versions of the ship.
Than is first one the major version and the second a variant of this class.

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

I prefer the bulgeless version, but I see what you mean by it possibly looking too NX-01ish.

As for the hangy down bit, it isn't so much that I think it needs it as you've drawn it in your orthographic sketch, and from the looks of it we should be able to see at least part of it from the side.

On other hand, is that same feature visible in the Enterprise's profile? I'm not sure...

The bulge is a goodness. My girlfriend has said that to me on many an occasion.

Here is an comparison of the ships.
New and old if you so want.

The ship looks great, and it looks better without the bulge in the middle, but perhaps I could suggest a bulge where that support bar between the nacelles meet. In the scetch it appears to sloop downward anyway. That might alter the Neo-NX-01 look...

And the front view:

Do you know why this looks good (apart from the fabulous artwork) is cause the NX-01 looks like it could exist in the 24th century ANYWAY - a few minor changes just shifts it back into 24th century focus. The real challenge - make the NX-01 look like it should fit in with TOS.

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

Why should the NX-01 fit in with TOS? It's 100+ years before.

Posted by Austin Powers (Member # 250) on :

Yet looks like from 200 years after. Oh well, we all know that obviously.

Anyway Lobo, love your design - be it with or without bulging secondary hull. As you said, just make two versions and everyone will be happy...hopefully [Smile]

The name "neo nx class" is just a placeholder for the real class name, thats not given yet.

Here is an other color scheme:

Think I like the blue/yellow scheme better. Those thick pastel-colored columns make the ship's guts somewhat difficult to make out.

Here is an first try of an construction emblem.

I know, its not really good, but i'm working on it.

i love the side profile of the "bulgey" version. Lobo, you should be working for Paramount. then there would be at least one person there who actually cared about trek.

Posted by Nimpim (Member # 205) on :

It should definitely have the bulge.

I prefer the bulge version. . .

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Do you know what this design reminds me of... I think it is a perfect next step from the Sovereign/Intrepid/Akira/Nova generation

Posted by Nimpim (Member # 205) on :

Yes, that first page sketch is great with the dual, forward-facing phaserstrips on the "forehead of the saucer.
It could be the first Starfleet ship that can fire several beams simultaneously.
Picture that, with two bright lights traveling down the strips, shooting out from the lower halves, straight forward.

Note to author: The right nacelle on the first-page sketch looks like it is curving more upwards instead of outwards from the main body, which I actually think is nicer than the IMO too wide nacelle pair of the real NX-01.
If the nacelles are aligned more closely to the body, like in the sketch, it looks faster and sleeker, mmm.

I'm not saying "Dauntless" sleek, but, well...

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

We did see Galaxies firing more than one beam at a time from a single strip during the Dominion War.

Posted by Nimpim (Member # 205) on :

Yes, and I remember in "Year of Hell" (or was it that first Malon ep, "Void"?) when Voyager gave all she got, she fired multi then too, it was nice.

But I meant even more timed and simultaneous, like old Enterprise 1701 did with her parallel blue beams, in TOS.

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

In BOBW pt 1 the Enterprise D fires "all weapons" and uses all the phasers and torpedos in concert.
Does squat, however.

Posted by Dat (Member # 302) on :

But that was not multiple beams fired simultaneously from the same strip. That was multpile beams fired in rapid succession from the same strip along with multiple strips firing simultaneously with single beams.

Posted by Mark Nguyen (Member # 469) on :

"Conundrum", against them puny patrol ships.

Those are some phat volleys! I stand corrected.

Though the individual blasts look pretty weak. Of course, these are small ships, so it worked just fine.

Of all "powerblasts" though, I think the opening phaser-blast by the 1701-E in FC, with the beam almost totally white and with that deep sound, was the sturdiest.

Posted by Nimpim (Member # 205) on :

"multiple strips firing simultaneously with single beams" was what I was getting at, though.
And symmetrical, like this. Wandering from the top of the strip, like always, and stopping just below the middle.

Lobo, you are one hell of a graphics genius! Who needs Okuda when we have you here? [Smile]
Which program did you say you used for creating the MSDs - was it Illustrator?

MS Paint?

The same Corel Draw 10 as I use!? I bet you have some Asskicking Starships plugin that I miss [Smile]

Thanks for the info Lobo!

But to be honest, I hate Corel Draw - whatever the version. Of course that's only my personal opinion. The damned thing used to crash my machine just too often.
But seeing what you manage to do with it I should perhaps reconsider...
