Has anyone purchased a model of the Nemesis Enterprise-E? If so:
- is it different from the previous ones?
- are the spec sheets different?
- could you scan and post same?

There has only ever been 1 official model kit of the Enterprise E released and that was after FC. I guess there have been 2 if you count the smaller version released for the multi Enterprise packs.

Is that what you're talking about? Styrene model kits?

So far, I've seen the FC and Insurrection versions of the Enterprise-E. I have the FC in a shelf somewhere.

I think that ERTL simply changed the packaging to use the latest movie title in hopes of attracting more buyers... I don't think they redesigned the actual model any.

Nobody is making Star Trek models at the moment anyway, are they? I remember a new company picking up the license, but I don't recall if it was for the entire franchise or what. Plus, I don't think their kits have gone into production yet.

That is, leaving aside such talented but not quite official works as all those resin cast ones. Or, you know, however those works. I don't know. I made a model of a semi truck once.

The new company (Polar Lights, I think) has the license for the entire franchise. One of their first releases is going to be the TOS Enterprise, and they're doing the NX-01 this summer.

There is curreently no model of the refit Enterprise E.
THe best "E" kit is the resin model by Alliance models......it's the First Contact version.
The ERTL kit is not really accurate in many places and the Insurrection boxed version is the same model.
To date Polar Lights has no official plans to do a "E" unless the big NX-01 and TOS Enterprise sells well. [Confused]
Go figure.

Not a model kit per se, but Art Asylum, the holder of the Trek toy license, is working on an 18-inch Nemesis Enterprise-E, slated for a Winter '03 release. Based on the wonderful quality of their NX-01 and the beautiful production pics of their 1701-A, it should be pretty accurate (they use the actual CGI mesh to produce the molds).

the Art Asylum NX-01 is beautiful by the way.

ERTL products suck. I do not know who runs thier injection-molding presses but I know for a fact I could do better. There is NO EXCUSE for the level of flash on thier kits, nor the number of warped/voided/short-shot parts.

I'm a profesional plastics man myself, I've run the injection-mold process as well as thermo/vac-forming processes. Just a quick rundown:

FLASH: Caused by either too much fill pressure (SLOPPY!) warn tools (LAZY/CHEAP BASTARDS) or incorrect mold-locking pressure (SLOPPY!)

WARPED: Too short a cooling cycle. Too much "Shoot the goo and pack the product" not enough quality. No excuse.

VOIDS/SHORTSHOT: Sloppy process control. Someone needs to tend these presses better and reject the parts that haven't filled right! GAAAGH!

Directly from the mesh eh? That's cool. They converted the CGI into a tool-path program for the moldmakers? I'd like to learn more about that.

Styrofoam, do you know people who can build the Ertl models for me? I don't have time for it anymore and I want the Sovereign Class built as a nightlamp.

I've seen the Art Asylum NX-01 and it kicks major butt. I've been itching to pick one up. I also want to get the Phase Pistol and Communicator set, but I'm afraid I'll get stopped at the airport. Those things look darn realistic.

Get one, Alan. It is the coolest toy gun I've ever owned. Oh, if only I was 20 years younger so I could really enjoy it. . .

Art Asylum's stuff is worth it: not only because of the accuracy, but they're cheaper than anything Playmates ever came out with. And to show that they do care about getting things right, Art Asylum even released a downloadable decal set for accurizing the NX-01.

Can't wait to see how their TOS phaser is going to work... supposedly, the Type I phaser will be detachable from the body of the Type II.

Hopefully it will have an incredibly orange tip, too. Good job protecting our national security, guys! Imagine if we couldn't tell our American toy phasers from the viciously real ones employed by our spacefaring Islamic militant nemesis?

*drool*

Ok... that cuts it... I'm picking up a phase pistol at Toys R Us next time I'm in Mishawaka. Must...start...phaser...collection....

That thing about the downloadable decals is cool too... I mean how cool is that... a company that actually *cares* about blowing their customers minds. That's neat.

Here's a little tidbit... If you'll look on the packaging for any of the Enterprise figures by Art Asylum, you'll notice that one of the package designers credited there is Kerry Flaherty. I went to college with a girl by that name. She wasn't in package design, but it could very easily be the same person.

With your artistic talents, Alan, you might enjoy getting into prop creation. Perhaps you could get one of the kits you build & detail yourself, like the ones advertised at Roddenberry.com? If you're interested, I have links to a couple of prop-building websites. . .

(great, what am I doing? I'm advising him to get another hobby that'll take up even more of his time)

I would love, love, love to get into prop making. In fact, I took a couple 3-D illustration classes in college. But alas... I have neither the time nor the cash to get seriously into it. So for now, I'm limited to making lightsabers...

 -

With the ability to make my own props... with molds and decals... I would be an unstoppable force! The world would be my OYSTER!!!

BBUUUUUUUUUUUHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA...

But I can't afford it.

Don't look at me. I make styrofoam plates and meat-trays. Haven't had time to pick up a model kit in years.

Nuts. I was hoping that would be a quick way to get a good-quality view of the new changes. The posted art is nice (Thanks to the Trek Chimp - I mean Monkey Man) - but I am really looking for specs.

Fleet-Admiral Michael T. Colorge why dont ya make a post on the forums over at starshipmodeler.com i'm pretty sure someone there would take it up if the price is right. i quite like the idea myself but i'm nowhere near talented enough to make one of the quality you would want it, im just a beginner. plus i dont have the time.

Actually, we're all hoping the Polar Lights version of the "E" will have some of the mods on it.
....or that Alliance will update their model kit to the Nemesis version. [Wink]

I could do it in 2500th if I had a real comprehensive guide to the updates.
They seem pretty minor to me.
