I've been meaning to update this one for a while now.

For those who wonder, this ortho is not exactly the same as my schematics nor is it exactly like Brian Pimenta's original sketch either.
Like with the Constitution patch this would have been made before the actual ship had been built so I intentionally incorporated some design variations.

What about the "I designed the Antares' toilets and all I got was this lousy patch and free Starfleet toilet paper for life" variant? [Smile]

VERY nice. Like the Sector 002! [Smile]

Heheh - yup we need the 'toilet variant' - of course for Voyager you only need the one [Smile] Cause the saucer already looks like a toilet seat! [Smile]

"I designed the Intrepid's toilets and they used my design for the ship". [Smile]

The Antares class dosen't have any toilets! they use the main airlock and it's super vacume flush!

And they say Flare is one of the more mature Sci-fi forums.

They lie.

A lot.

That's very nice, Rev. One nit: the registry on the primary hull looks a bit flat rather than curving up towards the center of the dish. Another nit: should the development project be based at a maintenance yard?

Could have been a sorta "Junkyard Wars" project!?! [Smile]

Maybe that is the explanation for the Antares class!?! It was a junk-yard sort of class - where engineers made ships from what they could find... sometimes there were certain hull types that were more prevalent than others!?!

[Smile]

Or the rather lengthy thread we had here is also another explanation! [Wink]

Or my suggestion that "Antares Class" is akin to "Starship Class" - sort of all-encompassing.

How do we actually know that there was an Antares Class, and that the Antares wasn't just part of another Class (as its 501 registry suggests)?

And where do we get that registry? Is it an Encycloepdia-only thing, or did Okuda actually hide the reference somewhere onscreen?

I don't much like the idea of any of the "random" ships from the shows being class ships. There usually are many, many ships in a class, so the odds of meeting the first one are low unless there is a special reason. And frankly, I'd love for this nice Concordance Antares to be a humble member of a class, rather than a class ship, too. "Humility" is written all over it, and nicely accentuated by Reverend's design...

All I can say is...I tried.

I altered the encyclopedia reg for two reasons.

1) It fit's the Constituton-esq design era a little better.

2) Apparantly on of the FJ ships (a Saladin I think) is already NCC-501....Not that I really care but it looks better if I list two reasons instead of just the one. [Wink]

In regards to this being the "Charlie X" Antares AND the class prototype; I simply say, why not? There's no real reason why it can't be, better to kill two ships with one design I say.
Plus when you consider that there is only one other STARFLEET Antares-Class ship referenced and it's amoung a rag-tag fleet of half operational ships, an old 23rd Century Surveyor fits in there quite nicely I think.
