Well, after about 8 hours in Illustrator, im ready to goto print on my new 40" x 20" poster.

The USS Defiant's MSD.

 -

Its pure vectors, scaleable to any size. Sometime this week Ill be printing it out at work and mounting it on glossy foamcore. I *was* going to print it on oversize film, but my boss threw it away. (I didnt really want to build a backlight box for it anyway).

It may not be uber-screen accurate, but its pretty close, and most importantly -- clear.

Hey - in the corner there, on deck 5, is that two people making woopee? I bet it's Worf & Dax, those horny two.

Sexy.

Any Defiant MSD will find detractors, Wes, due to the contradictions with the canon or the Tech Manuals. I applaud your efforts.

Oh yeah, and it looks pretty, too.

Pretty was what im going for. And we all know the Defiant is 117m long.

Oh yes, I went there.

Haha. You're a geek!

Yes Harry, we all are. That's why we're real instead of talking to *real* people.

Well Wes, you know I like it.

Is it possible to get a MSD lit up with a backlight framed to put on a wall. So it looks like a lit MSD in the show.

You'd probably have to slice a hole in your wall to accomodate the light box behind the picture. Either that, or the picture would be several inches off the wall due to the thickness of the box.

That was my plan, but my boss threw away the material i need to use in my HP DesignJet 2800 to do that, so im just making a mounted poster instead.

I don't see it either. But any excuse to think about Jadzia works for me.

Jadzia told me to meet her on deck 6 for sex.

Theres not one thread on flare that doesnt get derailed horribly after a page of posts. Oh well!!

Hey Wes, I was remiss before in not complimenting your bueatiful work. [Smile]
Really, I wouldn't mind making a backlit print of that myself.

One thing though: I think the human figures in the MSD are too tall- based on the shuttle size and the chairs and turbolifts.
Try scaling them down to 85% and I think it'll work better.

Wanna make me some MSD's for my ship designs?
I'll sacrifice a sheep in your honor.
(this will lead to many sheep jokes, I know)

Posted by Aban Rune (Member # 226) on :

Well, that poor sheep has been praying for death anyway.

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

SEE!?!
Aban's the one that derails all the topics!
It's all his fault!

Besides, he sold me the sheep.
He's B-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-d! [Big Grin]

Post some ship designs and i'll see what I can do.

COOL!

This should link you to galleries of most of my models: not all designs are canon-not all my own design- but several are.

I was thinking of the Los Angeles class really: it's small (about 315 meters long at a guess) and not too many decks.

Holly shit those are yours. Im honored that you want me to make MSDs for you. Your work is incredible.

Hobbes is taking his sweet time getting me his latest design (his first post-millitary Trek work, IIRC) so i'll pick one of yours to do.

Im realling digging that USS Douglas.

Ok, get me a side view of this guy: http://pic14.picturetrail.com/VOL544/657989/1227830/35935638.jpg

and i'll see what I can do.

Edit: on second thought, from the side it would just look like a slightly modded neb.

What is this USS Los Angeles you speak of?

Coolness!

Acutally, the Chandley is a very modified Ambassador saucer (the outer rings removed) with a small Nebula pod split and the nacelles (about what a New Orleans has but 20 % shorter) swung downward.
Theres no nebula-like secondary hull at all though. The bridge and shuttlebay are the same as on a Galaxy but there's an extra deck beneath them (kinda like steps).
This is an update on anold FASA design.

I have some additional pics at home, (that i took oday as it happens: I replaced the decal registry with one of the accurate font) including a side view and rear view showing the impulse engines.

Here's an album of pics of the Chandley:

Hobbes isn't in the Navy anymore!?! I thought he was on leave - when did he actually get discharged!?! (apart from conception [Wink] )

Mabye he means "first work since joining the military"?

...and the Douglas is not one of mine exactly:
It's a newly-detailed and highly modified version of aship by Ravenstar Studios.
