Im looking for the transporter-sound in midi-format. Ive looked via google, but nothing. Anyone? Please..

MIDI format is designed to synthesize the sounds of various instruments and such. Are you sure it's even possible to use it to replicate a transporter sound, much less that someone has already done it?

Hmmm the internet's full of WAV files of that sound.
Mabye you can look for a converter at downloads.com

I only have the mp3 file from the Star Trek: Generations Soundtrack.

Yeah, I found the wav-file, but that didnt work for me. You see, Im going to use it in my mobilephone. And, no, I have no idea if the midi-thing will work. I tried download.com and downloaded a bunch of converters, but it didnt work..
Mp3-file? Could you upload it here? mp3 works for me...

Phht...you should get your phone to bellow out "KAAAAHN!" while you're at it.

He, he, well, the ring-tone is the intro from TOS, man, am I a geek or what..

I thought to let the phone do a transporter sound when I get an sms was kinda cool..

the phone accepts midi and mp3, but not wav, sucks..

So convert the .wav to an .mp3 instead.

I wanted to program my phone to make the chevron locking sound from stargate everytime I diald a number and the kawossh when I hit the send button... but then I thought... "hey... that's a lot of work."

I'm always in the market for a good Zat gun sound. . . The one I had wasn't very good quality, and sounded really annoying as my ICQ new message alert. My earlier choices (B5 door chimes, original and later Crusade) worked much better.

My ICQ message alert used to be Eric Idle in Holy Grail getting shot with an arrow and saying "Message for you, sir!" Boy, did that ever get old.

Sounds like a great idea though! Would you be ubernerdly enough to say "Chevron x encoded" after you dial each number!?! [Big Grin]

My phone only says the standard (female voice) "You have an incoming call" for all numbers but says it in japanese for my best friend and when work calls, it shreiks (a scream from some horror movie) like a woman.

The shrieking takes some getting used to- although it's not very loud, it can startle you if you're asleep.

The Borg's "Resistance is futile" line would be nice to have for work though.

Well, I did convert the wav-file of about 10 kb to mp3, but it increased in size to 130 kb and decreased significantly in quality :-( There was this hissing background noice that almost drowned out the transportersound itself...

I have the theme from Thundercats as my ring tone. And I take perverse pleasure waiting to the "Thunder-thunder-thunder-THUNDERCATS..." bit before answering with "Ho?" I am that cool.

Of course. Wouldn't everyone?

Psy, once again you've proven yourself my hero.

Hehe... Makes me wish I had a phone capable of doing all this - then I'd have an excuse for the Thundercats outtakes with all the swears. [Wink]

Say what now?

Google up "Thundercats Outtakes". There's a collection of MP3s or WAVs out there of the cast flubbing their lines, ad-libbing, and otherwise goofing off. Classic stuff you'd never expect to be preserved from the 1980s. [Smile]

Meanwhile, back at the topic...

You wont find a Midi file of the transporter sound, that's an impossibility since Midi only captures performance data and not real sounds. You can get plenty of .wav files of it though, and can then use conversion programs to get it into the format of choice for your phone.

Thanks Axeman, for getting the topic back on track :-)

Ive tried 4 different conversion programs found at download.com, most recent AmazingMidi, but none works. They all say that the wav-file is wrong..
Any tips for programs?

Er, are you trying to convert a file from wav to midi? Because, y'know, you can't.

In fact, why are you trying to convert it at all? It can't be hard to get the transporter sound in either mp3 or wav, and if neither of them work on your mobile, I can't imagine what will.

Well, the programs claim that they can, actually. And a quicksearch on google gives you plenty of links to that...But nothing works for me..

And for the mp3, as I said above, after converting my wav-file to mp3, the quality really sucked..

If anyone could help me with an mp3 version of the transporter-sound, I will be a lucky man :-)

Good luck with the wave2midi conversion. I've tried programs like that in the past out of curiosity, but don't expect any miracles. I mean, you're essentially trying to convert an arbitrary waveform that could be anything from an opera to a recording of some guys fart to what is essentially computerised sheet music for (128?) sampled instruments.

As for the other conversion, the best encoders around are probably LAME or scmpx (despite its rather odd looking homepage) so try those if you're having quality problems.
If they say that you have an invalid file, it may be because your wav file is already compressed and you may have to decompress it to a pure wav before continuing. You can use pretty much anything for that including Winamp.
