Who would win in a fight...wait for it...you guessed it! A Star Destroyer vs. the Enterprise!!!

I found some other obscure forum today (not nearly as good as Flare) and one of the topics was this. Don't ge tme wrong here I like Star Trek too. That must make me some kind of double traitor to both star wars and star trek or something.

What pisses me off the most about these Star Wars vs. Star Trek discussions is that #1: Star Trek is set in a future that could possibly exist (tho probably not cuz half the sh*t they're babbling about probably wouldn't exist even in the future)

#2 Star Wars is set A long time ago in a Galaxy far far away. Therefore there is no common basis for comparison.

#3 A couple of those loser/geeks in that other retard-forum talk about how star wars uses "Lasers" while Star Trek uses the more "advanced" "Phasers". Destructive energy is destructive energy. Being the humungous Star Wars geek that I am I know that lasers in star wars are more akin to particle weapons. The energy from the power cell is used to excite the particles of blaster gas (called Tibanna gas) which is then sent through a focusing crystal and down the barrel which has Galven circuitry that further focuses the bolt. The destructive energy is actually invisible and the bolt that we see is just a natural by-product of the reaction and can actually be eliminated to create an invisible blaster bolt. as for phasers, well I'm sure one of you trekkie's can describe it better than I do. But it seems to me just from my knowledge of both star wars and star trek that a phaser from the enterprise probably does about the same damage as a turbolaser from a Star Destroyer. the SD has an advantage cuz it has 60 of those.
Also Star Destroyers are faster at FTL speeds. taking anly a few hours to a month or two to go from one end of the galaxy to another while Voyager would have taken seventy some years to get home from the delta quadrant. and the technology for FTL travel is different in both universes. also, scientists in Star Trek have only been designing starships for a few hundred years. while in star wars they've had over 20,000 years to develop thier technologies. those other wannabe geeks never thought if that.

Then again since the enterprise and a star destroyer don't exist in each others worlds, there is no precedent to make any assumptions about how a battle between the two would fare.

This topics probably been discussed at some point or another on this forum however i havn't seen it.

And I put this topic here since it had BOTH Wookies and Warp Drives i didn't feel like posting it in both forums.

There. I am now done ranting I'm sorry to have wasted your time, well, actually i'm not.

Do we sill have a rule against ship vs. ship discussions? I know there was one way back in the UP days, but is it still in effect?

Please let it be so...

Which would win in the "Rust-a-nail-in-a-soft-drink" battle? Coke or Pepsi?

Posted by Siegfried (Member # 29) on :

I think Coke would dissolve the nail before it had a chance to rust.

Also... yeah. A Star Wars versus Star Trek thread. I'm pretty sure that there's no new ground to cover in this debate after almost thirty years. At least until Star Trek XI: The Future's Beginning or Star Wars: Episode 7: Fall of the Skywalker.

Moya would kick both their asses.

Posted by Sol System (Member # 30) on :

I don't even get it: The ship is sentient, but requires a pilot to do anything? But then this pilot is literally a part of the ship, so why isn't it Moya?

(And if we're talking slightly ((or more than slightly)) goofy living ships, Moya would be nothing more than a passing appetizer for the Lexx, once the crew of the latter had finished having sex with, failing to have sex with, and inadvertently murdering the crew of the former.)

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

Moya wouldn't be able to do anything to either ship other than ram it. Talyn, on the other hand...

Or that fatso that bounced the Enterprise out of its way like it was a Jehova's witness.

Who would win in a fight? Kirk or Picard?

Kirk.

Picard would stop and say "Wait, let's talk about this" and, of course, Kirk would kill him.

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

Kirk and Sisko on the other hand would be an interesting duel.

Posted by WizArtist II (Member # 1425) on :

As in which one would fight dirty first?

Posted by The Ginger Beacon (Member # 1585) on :

How many times did Sisko put up his dukes? I can only remember the time he hit Q, but I havn't seen DS9 since it aired first time round.

Posted by Topher (Member # 71) on :

Sisko was involved in his fair share of scuffles. Usually with Dukat or Eddington. But he would definately beat the snot out of someone if he had to.

Thank you ever so much for ruining my sarcasm. No, really.

Sisko also was working out his frustration on a punching bag a few times, too...

Posted by AndrewR (Member # 44) on :

Sisko would fight Kirk but later probably feel remorse for what he had gotten himself into

Kirk would fight Sisko and think how awesome he was yet put it down to another day as a Starship Captain.

This is assuming Kirk is in his prime and Sisko wasn't awestruck at being in Kirk's presence at the time.

Janeway and Archer would react differently depending on which season of the show it was. [Smile]

Kirk and Picard share the advantage of being familiar with the use of a sword, and you never know when that might come in handy.

Sisko also threw down with some Jem'Hadar, and, as I recall, some fairly pissed off Klingons. He got his wicked martial arts on.

Kinda related, but my wife told me that the new Vice Principal at the school where she teaches reminds her of a cross between Sisko and R. Lee Ermey. I need to see this guy for myself, but this is not someone I would want to mess with.

What is your Major? You don't have a Major? ALL the rest of the class drop and give me a 100 while Private Jelly doughnut here figures out his major!

Wow, I'm amazed this has stayed so strictly on topic.

Way to go. [Smile]

Oh - just got back from my very own "shakedown cruise" on the newest Navy ship, USS San Antonio. Enterprise would kick it's butt, (what with the big E having all those airplanes).

I think it would do OK against a star destroyer I mean, pssst fricken' laser beams! Besides San Antonio will have Marines, who can actually hit what they are shooting at.

But really Toadkiller. The least you could do would be to show us pictures. She's a pretty boat. (And with a belly full of jar heads she'll have teeth!)

Is that the new cruiser type I've heard so much about, the one without weapons? Or are they being installed next tuesday?

Why is itthat every year, CGI looks more like real life and real life military hardware looks more like cheap CGI?

Posted by Toadkiller (Member # 425) on :

She's a strange looking ship from the pier, with the "stealth" masts and all. Overall it is a nice look once you get used to it. The destroyers we build are much prettier IMHO.

There is a Wasp class, USS Makin Island, being built as well. The LPD is designed to complement them, and probably be a command ship at some point I guess.

*legal note* - all of the above is pubic domain rambling [Big Grin]

I can't wait for the Zumwalts to get here. Then we really will be playing with CGI looking ships. DD-21

So, this is what Senator Hutchinson would look like if she did bukkake porn. It is an odd looking ship, but it's still kinda neat.

Officially it is "DDX" now, not DD-21. It keeps getting moved along, but wow they are going to cost.

Outdoor AND Indoor. And when it's too hot for BBall, you can always play water polo...

I like the destroyers, but the LPD has Marines and asymmetrical deck heights and that just makes it cooler. I realize that for the most part naval guns are a thing of the past, but the Arleigh Burke's just look dinky to me. My uncle was a navigator on an Army LSV. Fugly. But if you're looking for sci-fi, the Spearhead TSV-1X might be your girl.

48 knots? A squid friend of mine was on Connie and said she could EASILY do 55 knots and she ain't even a nuke. Of course he wore glasses and couldn't judge distances either. Prolly means he was a lookout.

Shiny, and the fastest ship in the Army.

Wait a sec, ARMY?!??

Posted by WizArtist II (Member # 1425) on :

Pretty soon the Army will have their own aircraft....oh wait....

Is the Air Force the only branch that doesn't muck around where they don't belong?

I saw a new shot on the DDX and couldn't help thinking that you could raise a Confederate flag over it and it wouldn't look that out of place facing the U.S.S. Monitor. (except for size)

Posted by B.J. (Member # 858) on :

HA! We ought to use that as another data point in defending the NX design! Similar designs, yet completely different design criteria.

Posted by Toadkiller (Member # 425) on :

LSV's are built in a neighboring town. After Katrina they went looking for one they had tied to the dock during the storm. Basically (according to the rumor) they were driving around looking for the ship till a security guard pointed out its new resting place in a nearby field.

Those Army guys.

As for the speed of carriers this site has a great deal of information from people who seem to know their stuff.

Does the USAF have an equivilent to the RAF Regiment?

Although technically that's just for defending airfields so it's not really where they don't belong.

Posted by Timo (Member # 245) on :

Well, one has to decide whether ballistic missiles really belong to the Army, the Navy, or the Air Force. In practice, and in historical origin, they could be considered "heavy artillery", making the USN and the USAF the "muckers"...

IRBMs were still Air Force during the Cuban Crisis, right? But Pershings were Army?
