My wife and I are planning to visit Quebec City this winter to see the ice hotel. While we're up there, we'd love to spend some time seeing what there is to see before we fly back. What must-see things are within easy drive of Quebec City? We're happy to stay in the city, or drive a ways in any direction to see what there is to see. We love beautiful buildings and architecture, snow, views, and unique experiences. Thinking Niagra Falls might be good, but that's a nine hour drive, so that might be further than we want to go. Any other suggestions?

There are lots of beautiful buildings and architecture in Quebec City; make sure you take a tour of the Old City. I was only there in the spring so I'm not sure if the tours still run in the winter. There is also a river boat tour, but again, probably not in the winter...

There is a nice waterfall only a few kilometers north of the town that is worth visiting. Please check if access is available in winter.

If you haven't chosen a hotel, try this one:
http://www.hvq.com/
Located in the heart of Old Quebec. Wife and I stayed there one year, and found it to be quaint and cozy. They leave a picnic basket full of breakfast goodies each morning. The restaurant attached also serves all you can eat mussels in different broths. If anything, the major attractions are the Chateau Frontenac, Old Quebec, and the Citadel. You can go to my Facebook page and see the photos there.
My suggestion would actually be to fly to Montreal instead of Quebec City, stay a few days, rent a car, and then drive to Quebec City. Montreal also has lots of stuff for you to see as well, such as the Olympic Park, Biodome, Botanical Gardens and the Insectarium. Also, given that Quebec City doesn't have a busy airport, fares to Montreal are likely cheaper from where you will be flying from.
Hope this helps.
