Originally posted by newark: [QB] I saw a picture of the soldier of the future on a Popular Science magazine. He is dressed completely in black with a helmet covering his face. This soldier looks strangely like a Peacekeeper from Farscape. This is for real. This soldier is wearing the uniform of an objective force warrior. (Type the last three words and you will get more information.) He has enhanced sensors for locating and killing a target. I am worried about this. This uniform erases individuality completely and makes the soldier anonymous. Under anonymity, the soldier is given greater latitude in what he or she is doing in combat without fear of persecution. (How can you be persecuted for a perceived affront if a witness can't identify you?) I see this as a trend in our society. We are creating secret courts to handle national security matters and instituting laws to protect national security as judged by an administration. For instance, if there is a mechanical fault in a railroad track, the owners of the railroad are permitted by the administration to keep this a secret. It is national security afterall. If this information is released, terrorists could inevitably use this knowledge against us. We are slowly creating a secret society in our government. A society which is being less policeable and supervised. This society is given the right to spy on suspected, as suspected by anyone in the government, terrorists. For this society to do its function, it will need troops who are invisible. What better than the Objective Force Warriors, who are concealed in body covering uniforms with their faces largely covered? We have not won the war on terrorism. Instead, the terrorists are winning. The objective of terrorism is to alter a government or culture. I would say they have been quite successful. Wouldn't you? [/QB]
