[qb]for being involved in a mission to Axanar with Garth of Izar.[/qb]
That's pure speculation on Okuda's part. In "Whom Gods Destroy," Kirk mentions that Garth was required reading at Starfleet Academy. He also refers to Garth's victory at Axanar. Later, he mentions that he "first visited Axanar as a new-fledged cadet," which might indicate that the Axanar Peace Mission was not at the same time as Garth's battle. Academic, really.
[qb]Wasnt this mentioned at his courtmartial?[/qb]
Yes.
[qb]Is this the same species?[/qb]
Presumably. Note that, in the original series, they never mentioned a species at all; Axanar was merely a planet. The fact that it had inhabitants has long been assumed in fandom, by both FASA and LUG. Now, Enterprise confirms it, though they look totally different. [/QB]
