There's a symbol of the fleet which has gone unsung.
I searched for and found a couple of other statements by people online who seem to agree that this is the case, but that's it . . . and one of those statements was eight years old.

Do you agree?

I mentioned it last year or so, while looking at some nice DVD caps someone had done. I foolishly deleted the pic - but it's definately on the Flare Upload somewhere. SOMEONE is bound to have it - it's the perfect shot from "Court Martial" With Spock and McCoy, Finney's Daughter and Ensign Takahashi or what ever her name was sitting along the back wall with a big glittery 'Starfleet Symbol' above their heads.
ANYONE GOT THIS!?! Who and where are those caps now? I think the caps or the link to them were in the thread that was trying to determine the registries on that board behind Commodore Stone.

SO *THAT* IS WHERE I GOT IT!!
Yeah, I know what you're referring to . . . it looks like a "waiting room" scene. It's a very nice screen cap . . . I thought I'd deleted it, and started trying to find it on Trek5.com, because I assumed that was where such a quality cap must've been procured.

THAT'S IT!!!
Thanks for the reference.
The Encyclopaedia really should have pointed this out as being the TOS "Starfleet" Symbol.

Because, you know, everyone has always assumed it was! Fans used it everywhere for twenty years! Bjo Trimble painted it on the hood of her car!

Seriously? I've thumbed through Franz Joseph's tech manual, but it's been awhile and I don't remember seeing the symbol used in that way, and though I know the basic tale of Trimble, I'm not aware of much more than that.
Well, that would change "Unknown" to "Forgotten" . . . which, for us late-comers of the TNG and official-Okuda-publications-era, would be the same thing. I'll see what I can dig up and change the page.

Is Bjo pronounced... Bjo as in the star of the word Bajorans (which were named in honour of her) or Bee-Jo like Ban-jo (hopefully Banjo man from Caretaker was NOT in honour of her!)

I'd always assumed it was pronounced "byoh", until I saw something that said it was "bee-joh".
And the screencap from "Court Martial" in question was taken by me. But I don't seem to have it anymore. But here's a less useful one that I made once for someone.

What's his insignia... an Admiralty thing? There seems to be a Starbase-wide insignia during TOS. And I'd still love to know what that guy had on his chest in Balance of Terror (the guy from one of the outposts).

the guy with the shiny beige-ish uniform.. the same one reused for the dude on Cestus III.. i believe Arena might show it better.

I think Westervliet is just wearing the usual admiral/commodore indignia. The Encyclopedia calls it a "Starfleet Command emblem".
The insignia on the guy in "Arena" is indistinct, even on the DVD. I've tried to get a good shot of it, but can't.

Is it Beige or grey?
From Balance of Terror from Trek5.com:
(In Netscape you could use to right-click on a picture to get it's URL - now it's all fiddly with IE. Is there any keyboard short-cut instead of having to got to 'properties' etc.?)

The (our) left edge looks raised with dots?? Maybe it's a sorta boomerang shape - like that TOS Starfleet symbol?
