Topher closed the Anyone have a name for this??? thread before I could tack this on the end. (But did you all notice: "...They're just TV shows..."? Rocketfett successfully navigated the ever-troublesome "they're, their, there" choice. !?! And in the same sentence pointed out the futility of our obessessions? I'm weeping in the inside. Tears of pride.)
Hey but so I have a question about a show that isn't really sci-fi, but also has a monkey. "Mr. Smith " on NBC. Possibly an orangutan in a business suit as a superintelligent political advisor in DC. His voice was dubbed. Anyone have any pics or clips?

Ugh, considering the paragraphless drivel that rocketfett is tossing at me in private messages trying to get me to take action on him being called a crackhead, let's leave him out of this, eh? The guy has issues, let's just let him be for now.

It's not really that difficult differentiating between the uses of they're, their and there, even for someone with no grammar education, it should be something you just know if you're a native anglophone. So I don't see how it makes up for his generally being an arse to everyone who responded to him in that thread.
Mr. Smith didn't need a 256 IQ to be a political advisor, the average monkey will do in most political circles.

This thread is even more confusing, but: "Wallace Shawn was originally set to voice Mr. Smith, but changed his mind when he realized, were he to die, that his last project would be that of a talking orangutan"

By everyone, you mean Snay and Wraith, and you have to admit that Snay is not exactly a poster child for tolerance and co-operation. There's a big jump between lack of research and crackhead.
I would also like to say that his (rocket) grammar was definitely above average for the numerous five-post wonders that we've had breeze through here. More generally, the general feeling of elitism and casual abuse of new members before they've had a chance to acclimatise is not something that I'm liking here. Its a far cry from say, cylon.org but I'm still not very much a fan.

Posted on another messageboard I frequent... quote: Start with a cage containing five monkeys. Inside the cage, hang a banana on a string and place a set of stairs under it. Before long, a monkey will go to the stairs and start to climb towards the banana. As soon as he touches the stairs, spray all of the other monkeys with cold water. After a while, another monkey makes an attempt with the same result - all the other monkeys are sprayed with cold water. Pretty soon, when another monkey tries to climb the stairs, the other monkeys will try to prevent it.
Now, put away the cold water. Remove one monkey from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new monkey sees the banana and wants to climb the stairs. To his surprise and horror, all of the other monkeys attack him. After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs, he will be assaulted.
Next, remove another of the original five monkeys and replace it with a new one. The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment with enthusiasm! Likewise, replace a third original monkey with a new one, then a fourth, then the fifth.
Every time the newest monkey takes to the stairs, he is attacked. Most of the monkeys that are beating him have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs or why they are participating in the beating of the newest monkey.
After replacing all the original monkeys, none of the remaining monkeys have ever been sprayed with cold water. Nevertheless, no monkey ever again approaches the stairs to try for the banana.
Why not?
Because as far as they know that's the way it's always been done around here.

Very clever Mr. Topher. Also liked the "I WANT EVOLUTION LOOKING FORWARD NOT BACK" comment from the previous thread...
With reference to the original intent, alls I've been able to find is this:

Seriously, guys, leave rocketfett alone for now. Charles is dealing him, so let's just give the subject and posters in question a rest.
Balaam: this is all I could find on Google at the moment. It's just a small close-up of his face with some information about the series and star.

Thanks, Siggy. That's cool. Who comes up with a show like that?
I was up in Sacramento this weekend and an old friend and I were sharing a laugh. And while comiserating that we'd never get funding for our shows, we started on about monkeys, and he was desperately trying to remember the name of this show. So when I saw the Ark II still in the other thread, I remembered. Found the name, poking around Google. I just wanted to send him a funny picture too.

Monkeys doing human things is sad and irritating in movies. They just want the snack.

Oh dear, I laughed so hard at that monkey experiment quote. Must be my warped sense of humour - I'm just picturing some poor monkey being beaten up by the other monkeys and it has no idea why - yet it happily does it to the next new monkey! LOL! (I only laugh because I'm assuming it's not a REAL experiment.) What position did that Orangutan hold at General Hospital?

While I admit I enjoyed a past here as a "newbie buster", I don't spend as much time on Flare here as I used to, and I don't spend a lot of time harassing folks (except on my blog). I call lots of people 'crackheads', and sometimes 'crackwhores.' Generally I've found that one someone makes a stupid mistake that they should be aware of if they're proclaiming themselves knowledgeable in that area (i.e., length tv shows ran on tv), calling them a 'crackhead' is usually not seen as seriously saying, "Dude, I believe you do crack cocaine on a regular basis." (Although there is a crackwhore I have called a crackwhore because I know she does, indeed, indulge in crack cocaine and is, uh, a whore). I'm very sorry that Rocketfett's skin is thinner than the thinnest piece of paper, and I apologize for the comment, but y'know, if the dude had a sense of humor, I think he would've laughed it off - personally, I think he's suffering from being a miserable bastard and wants to make everyone else miserable. That's me. Rocketfett, sorry you're miserable, sorry I insulted you, but really man, you've got some weird priorities.

His tone irritated me. Especially if you have a look at his website and see what he classes as not pointless, sad trivia.
And now, back to the regularly scheduled monkey fest.

I completely agree. ...but then again, I'm against the capture of animals for entertainment purposes in general.
