Huh. Last I heard, Roberto Orci had the job. Guess not.
As for Frakes... On the one hand, he directed First Contact, one of my favorite Trek films. On the other hand, he also directed Insurrection, one of my least favorite Trek films.

So basically the framing story for ST3 will be Riker and Troi on the holodeck during the events of "The Pegasus," with Riker doing research on a past Enterprise crew from an alternate universe in order to find focus in his own life and be able to tell the truth and not be a big wussy.
