saw this episode for the first time last night. must of missed it over the years. anyway, at the end, odo arrests quark for smuggling thoses gases.....and rom jokes how he'll see his brother in "a few weeks". does quark really get put in jail this long, or is odo just giving him a little scare to stay on top of his job?

Odo didn't seem to be in the habit of joking. That was why he was often rather funny.
In any case, I always got the impression that Quark did indeed spend some time in the big house after that episode.

24th century penal system seems a little lenient in the way of prison time.
Garak stowed away into a restricted area of a starship, tried to destroy the capital of a neighboring government and was caught by Worf, and got 6 months
Kasidy smuggled supplies to terrorists, lied to military officials and evaded pursuit of starships, got 6 months.
The real world equivalents? If you snuck into the torpedo room of a USN ship and tried to ICBM a city on a neighboring continent, youd get more than six months.
If you were smuggling anything and got caught so boldly, do you really think that you be back from jail saying 'gosh, I'm rehabilitated' by the next episode? Perhaps prison is simplified by the use of the Tantalus device? Mind Control Revolts anyone?

Yes. Garak and Quark were certainly changed people after that. *cough*
-------------------- Yes, you're despicable, and... and picable... and... and you're definitely, definitely despicable. How a person can get so despicable in one lifetime is beyond me. It isn't as though I haven't met a lot of people. Goodness knows it isn't that. It isn't just that... it isn't... it's... it's despicable.
