The links have adapted so well to the forums' environment that they have developed a limited form of self-awareness. This enabled them to realize that people might see them better near the top of the page. A few nanoseconds' worth of evolution and voila! They've migrated to the top of the page.
Sure, they block other links that were here first, but evolution is a savage business.
