They really expect him to invite two kids that aren't his friends, just so noone feels left out? When I was younger, my elementary school allowed you to pass out invites in class, but they changed that rule because some kids felt left out. Now, you have to give it to them through the mail, or after school sometime when they're alone. If you pass invites out during class, you have to give them to everyone.

I was the most unpopular kid in my class (the classic nerd stuffed into the school locker). I always was the odd person who didn't get the party invite that some schmuck gave out in class. I never complained though. What's the point in being "left out" when you're already the kid who's "left out" of everything else?

Me as well. I wouldn't have wanted to be invited to somebody's party. I mean I would feel left out if I wasn't, but if I was I'd feel worse because I would have known they didn't want me there and were being forced to invite me. Then when I was there they'd have treated me like crap...and I'm sure that's all true for those two left-out kids in Sweden.

I got the impression that the two left out kids were bullies, or uber popular kids, who were never left out of anything, and they bitched to their parents about it. Or, the kids didn't care, and the parents were all hyped up about their kids not being invited, and they complained to the school. I know kids and parents just like that. The parents think their kids are above other kids. It's sad actually.

See, why would you want to complain about not being invited to something that you're not welcome at? That just makes no sense at all. I do understand the basic principle of what the school's trying to do, and I don't even necessarily disagree with it. I just don't think it's worth making a stink over.

More to the point, if I were the parent I'd be asking what business is it of the teacher who does and dose not get invited to a child's birthday party?

Gee, a Star Trek Internet board is full of people who were snubbed as nerds in school? I am absolutely shocked by this revelation.

I remember that bull from highschool: "It doesn't count!" Well, alright, if you stick it in another location perhaps you or she is still a virgin, but it bloody well does 'count'.
