Have you ever paid attention to the parts in some songs where the singer just goes "la-la-la", or "na-na-na", or something to that effect? Well, I've taken eighteen songs like that, extracted the bits in question (or a piece thereof), and now you get to listen to them, and try to guess what songs they're from. Interesting, yes?
Well, if nothing else, it's the first new contest we've had in a while. Give it a shot, eh? :-)
All of these clips are in MP3 format. If you haven't got some sort of MP3 playing software, you'll have to get it. The WAV files were going to be too big for people w/ lousy connections (the largest was nearly 950kB).
Addendum: Well, the links weren't working, so I asked someone else to upload them for me, and they still don't work. We'll try this when I can find someone who doesn't use GeoShitties (which I suspect might be behind this...).
Post-addendum: Yay! It works! Now we can get on w/ it! :-)
And thanks to Jeff Raven for supplying (semi-)functional Web space for them...
The clips are now WAVs, but they are MP3 encoded. Because they are now on Fortuneshitty, rather than GeoShitties (free Web space providers ought to stop using "city" in their names...), you'll get a window w/ three broken pictures, and you'll have to click the middle one to hear it. Either that, or copy & paste the URL. [Correction to this: See my post below.]

Ugh... I've edited the above post too many times, so I'll post this separately. Besides, maybe it'll make people look at the thread, since there's a reply now...
If you go to this page, you can open the files w/o the Fortuneshitty nexus...

1 - ZZ Top song, can't remember the title...
5 - sounds good, must find out what it is.
13 - Iggy Pop's "Passenger"
16 - Deep Purple's wonderful "Hush", later done by Kula Shaker.
I don't remember 10's name... Some 80's thing with bamboo-sounds.
That Smurf-sound is hilarious, it's so friggin' joyful. I'm playing it on repeat now, slowly going mad.
You should've put in "The Boxer" somewhere too, the most laaing, daaing and naaing song I know of.

And TSN, I imagine you had a lot of counting to do in order to get the number of daah's and la's right, up there.

Wow. You guys are pretty good at this. There are only a couple left that haven't been figured out (and one that's been half figured out). One of them I'm not surprised at, though, really. I didn't really expect anyone to get it... :-)

Well, I guess that's all the response I'm going to get...
I suppose Xentrick wins, although I'm rather skeptical about the fact that everyone was looking at previous people's answers and agreeing, rather than coming up w/ them independently. How am I supposed to tell what you knew, and what you simply got from the others? :-)
Here's the complete list of answers:
1. "La Grange" by ZZ Top 2. "Ripple" by the Grateful Dead 3. "Who Are You" by the Who (the only song I've heard on daytime radio containing the word "fuck" uncensored) 4. the theme from The Smurfs 5. "Aqualung" by Jethro Tull 6. "I Feel Free" by Cream 7. "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees 8. "Exquisite Dead Guy" by They Might Be Giants 9. "Meet James Ensor" by They Might Be Giants (the live version from Severe Tire Damage) 10. "Wild World" by Cat Stevens 11. "Fly like an Eagle" by the Steve Miller Band 12. "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" by Crosby, Stills, and Nash 13. "The Passenger" by Iggy Pop 14. "Snowblind" as covered by System of a Down (originally by Black Sabbath, but SoaD added the "da-da-da" bit themselves) 15. "(Don't Fear) the Reaper" by the Blue yster Cult 16. "Hush" by Deep Purple 17. "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison 18. "Hey Jude" by the Beatles
