Not a bad episode, but my least favorite so far.

The beginning was a great send-up of TNG's frequent concerts. (Seriously, I never noticed how common they were until I watched the TNG Honest Trailer.)

Captain Freeman decides the ship needs to be more efficient and starts working her crew to an early grave. Eh.

Ransom and Mariner have a mutual attraction to one another, despite getting on each others' last nerves.

BEST. ENDING. EVER. In the far distant future, Chief Miles Edward O'Brien is hailed as the most important Starfleet officer in history. HELL. YEAH.

Agreed, this episode felt a little weak. In the past two episodes, the comedy could be treated as playing things loose, but the Captain's demands were so extreme this week it crossed that fuzzy line from funny-but-realistic into funny-because-it's-unrealistic. That's not inherently a bad thing— I laughed enough throughout the episode. It's just going to take some getting used to. And it's going to make it harder to reconcile the traditional idea of the Star Trek canon when you've got such over-the-top moments to try to rationalize.

The funniest part about the concert? That apparently no one enjoyed Mariner's act either, they reacted almost exactly the same.

A good Flare question: Was that Klingon Bird-of-Prey intended to be a new design, or the animated style of the same old model? I could see an argument for either side...

But Chief O'Brien wasn't an officer except for when he was.

One thing, though - if you hadn't been told, would you have known that was Chief O'Brien? Because it looked nothing like Colm Meaney...

... Who’s either into 2360s Starfleet uniform cosplay, or late-25th century uniforms are just as uninspired and derivative as late-24th century ones...
