Just wondering what the turtleneck colors represented. Just a guess here ...
White = Command Grey = Sciences Green = Medical Yellow = Ship Ops (Engineering, Security) Red = Academy Command School students
And is that "other" uniform (you know the one I mean) a cadet uniform, or an enlisted uniform? I prefer to think of it as the enlisted uniform, myself -- makes more sense.

I think the TOS Movie Uniforms are my favorite of the uniforms we've seen -- they look more "military" then anything else, and the difference between the Officer and Enslited uniform makes it feel more "real" ... however, shouldn't the senior enlisted men wear a uniform close to an Officer uniform, like they do in the USN?

Now, is this clear to everyone, or do we need to start the beatings?

Yes, I do understand that, however, I'm simply pointing out that perhaps NCOs would wear an officer's uniform, similar to practices done in several world navies, including the US?

IIRC wearing a commissioned officer's uniform starts with the rank of CPO in the USN. I've read on a Grace Lee Whitney-Page that she said, that she had the rank of CPO in STIV and in the movie she wore a normal NCO-uniform.

I thought Rand was the XO of the Excelsior ...

Dmitri Valtane was the XO of the Excelsior. Rand was the comm officer of the Excelsior in VI, but not in IV. There is also debate as to whether she WAS in an enlisted uniform in IV...

I Agree with Jonah. She may have been there, but certainly didn't have any dialogue or anything. If any in-picture pictures ever show up, I'm going to assume that this is Janice's evil twin, and call her "Thomas".

Wait, hold-up, I thought in Flashback Rand was the XO? She was sure acting like it.

They made a mess of it, really. In STVI Valtane appeared to be the XO - or the closest thing to one, he had the most dialogue I think - while Rand hardly said anything. Also, Valtane is clearly alive at the end. Yet in "Flashback" Valtane is a junior officer, on a par with Tuvok, and Rand appears to be the XO - and Valtane dies in the battle.

They may have portrayed Valtane as a junior officer, but he still wore the Commander pins. Plus, the "bunkmates" scene seems to have been a badly executed "dayroom" sort of scenario -- someplace for bridge crew to catch some alpha waves before going into battle. I say this despite the fact that Tuvok's narration indicated Sulu had bade them return to their quarters...

Can you describe the scene?
I've no problem with Rand being a NCO in STIV. She was a NCO in ST:TMP too. Between IV and VI she made something to get her commission and finally she served as Lt. JG on the Excelsior.
It's good that the scenes in Flashback were just Tuvok's memories and no time travel.
