The Battleship turrets really put the Enterprise's actual size in perspective. I wish they'd done something like that from the beginning in TOS, some small telltale visual aid that would be recognizable to the audience.

Funny! As much as I wouldn't want to see this in Trek XI, I kinda like it too! Any idea who did the artwork?

Looks like I get to answer my own question. According to this page (at TrekMovie.com), the drawing was done by Jason "Vektor" Lee, a name familiar to many of us within the sci-fi art circles. (And FYI, he *doesn't* want the Enterprise to look like this in the movie.) There's also a larger picture available of the drawing in the above link.
