You can easily find the link for yourself, but Horner was flying a light plane which crashed near Santa Barbara; he died as a result.
Odd, as I was listening to part of the TSFS score on my way to workntonight, the piece when they arrive at Genesis & fight Kruge.

I had also been enjoying the ST3 music lately… the escape from Spacedock and the crew watching the Enterprise burning are classic. Trek's music, especially Horner's contributions, elevated my young tastes way back when, and that of his imitators.
