So, I go to Japan for a few weeks and everything's changed?
One of the many item that came back with me on this trip was the dreaded book STAR TREK MECHANICS. I would suggest that everyone reading this forum get one. It is published by Bunkasha, sells for 2300 yen (about $19.50), and its isbn # is ISBN4-8211-0588-8.
As to ways of getting this book, I'd suggest going to the local Kinokuniya book store in your area. Their web site (http://www.kinokuniya.com/) has a listing of their US stores...it may be possible to order over the phone. Although I don't know if he carries it, the folks at Hobbylink Japan (http://www.hlj.com/), might be able to come up with a copy. The Shosen Grande in the Kanda section of Tokyo seemed to have a few left....
Here's a few scans to whet your appetites...

The book is the sort of reference work that modelers like myself have been wanting for years. Some things are covered more than others (Voyager gets lots of detail shots, while the 1701-B only gets a few of the publicity stills), and I'd like to have more alien stuff, but these are minor complaints. Try to get this book. Enjoy the scans.

Pedro- there is a Kinokuniya bookstore in Seattle, and there is a SLIGHT chance that the book may even be in the store. Case in point- in Japan I was looking for toys from the new Gamera movie. I was unable to find them there, but they turned up at the local Japanese grocery store. I've had good luck ordering from the local Kinokuniya in the past...things usually arrive in two weeks (being on the west coast helps), and they don't mark things up TOO horribly.
As for sources in London, I have no idea. Kinokuniya does'nt appear to have any UK outlets, but there must be other ways. As a last resort, you could try calling Kinokuniya---I've done this, and it worked.
And as far as other obscure ships go, the NO is about as weird as it gets. I'll put together a more complete rundown of the book tonite and post it tomorrow (perhaps with a few more scans).
Why could'nt any US publishers put out a book like this?

Wheee! I managed to get the book on order from Kinokuniya in Seattle, though they say it will take two months to get it. I'll scan the whole thing for my site .

This isn't entirely about this book, but I have a question for you, Pedro. Several years ago, I was wandering around Pike Place when I came across this small sci-fi hobby sort of shop. They had several rare Trek publications, but I sadly had no money to buy any. In more recent times I've gone back looking for the place, but I can never seem to find it. I'm not sure if it's closed, or if my memory is just really bad. I always seem to wind up in some dark alley.
I realize you don't live all that close to Seattle (Closer then me, though.), but I'm hoping you might be aware of the shop I'm talking about.

Alexander: With your permission, I'd like to use that picture of the Borg vessel in a site detailing Borg tech.

The book's pictures look good. I am impressed with the detail. I also like on the NO class seeing the underside and them bothering to put a registry on the underside of the primary hull. I will eventually get this myself.
