I spotted it in the bargain bin of the local bookstore... What *is* it, anyway?

Purrrr...

I'm sure you have seen mention on the board of Next Generation Technical Manual?

Well, this item you found in the bargain bin is the CD-rom version of that same book. All about the Enterprise-D. I too found it in the bargain bin and am greatful. Its a great find.

The Interactive Technical Manual is enhanced with some nice graphic representations of what were originally black and white drawings in the book. I also discovered that certain pictures were broken down into stages. Meaning you just click on the drawing and it animates to the next step in the process of let's say the warp core.
The interface is all LCARS and has Majel Roddenberry as the voice of the computer (who you can always turn off if you don't want to hear her).

The CD-rom is several years old and if done now might have some interface improvements. But what I have is still pretty nice. It was released after the Star Trek Omnipedia CD-rom, which later became the Star Trek Encyclopedia-also based upon a book. The Encyclopedia interface flows better, having been released several years later. I say snatch it up, while it is still available. After all, with the Enterprise-D having been destroyed, the publisher will not likely revise it for new release.
