I hate drawing canon ships, but needed to draw Constitution for my new museum article. Here are my schematics (side and top only) based on the blueprints of Charles Casimiro (http://home.earthlink.net/~casimiro/blueprints.html).
Just curious... how come you didn't do a front/back view for this one?

Very nice as always; looking forward to the article!!
One thing though; is it me or is there a small kink in the curve of the upper primary hull, forward of the bridge?

Possibly. I see what you mean. That might be an artifact from the antialiasing and resolution or may come from the layer with thickened lines to produce the outline. Again, it may be a problem with the drawing. I will check.

Ah, just wondering...
And Wraith, as Masao's beta reader, I'll comment that the article is definitely a good one -- of course, at the Museum, they're all good! It may not be quite what you expect, though...

Excellent work! A definate improvement over your original. (the pinched teardrop shape on your old one always bugged be) I noticed the contrast levels on your gradients have smoothed out a bit however I see you still insist on using a top down light source

Yeah, that bridge was bugging me too. I originally traced the plans in SotSF (many years ago), so blame them. I can understand why 3D modelers feel compelled to make their own model of Constitution. You really learn how a starship is put together. Sort of like an apprenticeship. Not fun, but a necessary experience.
Anyway, here is the front and back views. http://lobotomy.pleh.net/~flareupload/uploads/232/B.jpg (about 170 kb) They're not perfect (should have some shadows on and under the nacelle supports), but good enough for the museum. The top light shall stay!!!
