So I saw the new Transformers movie the other day. I liked it. I didn't like it as much as the first one, but for what it was, it was enjoyable. However, I did have a couple issues with it:
1. It was about half an hour too long, which could have been fixed if...
2. ...they had cut all the scenes with Mudflap and Skids. They were frankly annoying and did absolutely nothing to move the plot, not to mention...
3. ...the level of profanity skyrockets in this movie, mainly by the above Autobots. Honestly, when you have two robots that sound like Chris Rock and another one that sounds like Joe Pesci, you have to wonder what the producers were thinking. Having a robot drop the f-bomb isn't even funny the first time it happens, let alone the seventh. And this list wouldn't be complete without...
4. ...temporarily going blind at the sight of John Turturro's ass stretched across the screen. Now that's five seconds of my life I'll never get back.

I didn't like it as much as the first movie either, the movie projector at the theatre was on the fritz so the bottom half of the screen was blurry and gave me a headache about an hour into the movie.
From a technical standpoint the movie was pretty well done, the special effects were nice and Jetfire looked pretty badass for an old dude.
The weak spot of the movie was the plot for me. I dunno it just didn't quite draw me in.
And I agree completely that Mudflap and Skids were completely unnecessary. They were like a pair of robot Jar-Jars and I was glad when it looked like Devastator ate one of em, then he lived and I was like "fuck..."
All in all it was a good waste of $8 though.

So in summary, it's giant robots hitting each other for two and a half hours filmed in Michael Bays patented 'Confuse-o-Vision' shakey cam. What's not to like?

The misplace humour that isn't very funny, the borderline racist twins and every scene involving the parents. Actually I didn't mind the film that much, it was certainly better than I thought it'd be and something of an improvement over the first.

And yes, MNW, they mention Obama by name. But you really should go see it in the theater, if only to get the full experience with the sound and big picture.

Thing is, that's pretty much what he DID as Soundwave, his Claw voice is threaded thorugh a ring modulator and given the monotone musical thing. I'm willing to bet that Welker did his usual Soundwave and either they forgot to do the modulation, or Bay heard the Claw voice and just liked it better. Wouldn't be the first time.

Indeed. Pretty sure there's a scene or two in the original series where they forgot to alter Soundwave's voice, and he sounds exactly like Dr. Claw there too.

I've seen Transformers 2 twice now. First off, I heavily disagree with all the negative critic reviews. Typically I ignore people like Ebert because they usually hate movies I like. It's a summer action movie about giant alien robots, not Sean Penn playing a mentality challenged homo.
In a lot of ways I consider this movie better than the first, but falls short in other ways.
Pro: More transformers. More Autobot on Decepticon fighting action. Con: Not enough character development on the new transformers. Most of which had one or two lines, if any. Sideswipe had like two lines while the "comic relief" Mudflap and Skids took plenty of screen time. Sideways, an Audi R8 had like a minute on screen while Wheelie went from Decepticon to humping Megan Fox's leg (not that I could blame him).
More military action. I loved the military use in the first movie and this one definitely upped it. I loved the whole joint Autobot-multinational military team.
Soundwave. The most requested transformer finally shows up. Being a spy satellite makes better sense than a size-shifting cassette player. If only he sounded like he did in the cartoon.

Fuck's sake- WHY did they change the basic charcaters of Wheelie and Arcee??!
That's just stupid....and somehow Jetfire became Kup.
It's kinda funny that Bumblbee is now a badass. Of course, they could have made him like this lifesize Bumblebee.
