A quick Google search turns up the following pages regarding Jose A. Perez, the guy who made the model.

(and on a related note, what happened to Foundation Imaging? Their domain is for sale)

Anyway... that model is obviously not particularly accurate. Especially the windows and lettering are a bit off.

A common theory regarding the gravity was that the NCC-1701 somehow projected it's gravity fields(?) onto the Botany Bay.

An idea so absurd it actually cover several episode's errors.

I like the look of the revised S.S. Botany Bay. They improve upon the original model which was more of a study model than a actual depiction of a working spacecraft.

I WTF'ed at that, too. But, then, having it standing off to the sides like that is a fair way of keeping it away from most of the ionizing badness. However, I'd still expect such a thing to be further forward.

It explains why Khan's ship was lost for so long though......whoever launched them into space gave them on a one-way ticket. [Wink]

Those antenna are probably just hollow tubes stuck on for Khan's piece of mind.

Not the first time. In fact, the Galor Fleet File from the current issue states it to be 381m rather than the commonly accepted 481m.

Blah. I'm not at all happy with this interpretation of the Botany Bay. The engine bells look far too realistic to be plausible, if you get my drift. And the container attachment system is all wrong - the original model very clearly shows the ship is supposed to carry two full sets of eight containers, and that Khan for some reason is only using the four lower forward berths.

And those window rows are just plain silly. Why should the ship have windows at all? The interiors certainly didn't show any...
