What is going on with this? What's it about? Is it actually happening now, or is it going to happen, because everywhere I go on the web to read on upcoming TV shows or films, it's "may be delayed because of the strike this" or "unwilling to commit until the strike is resolved that."
However, it does seem to me they have a funny idea about what a strike is. It's meant to be disruptive! Instead they plan it months in advance, and no-one signs to do any work during the period. How is this meant to make the studios capitulate (over pay for adverts, or something)? If a few $10 million a picture actors suddenly refused to honour pay-or-play contracts to do some film or other because of the strike, that would work. But instead they've all planned their holidays for then.

Yes, but the problem is, they can't make ANYTHING during that time frame ... no new movies, no new TV shows, etc.
Frankly, I hope it'll be a good thing. Let's get some new actors into Hollywood ... I'm sick and tired of people who want to be paid $12 million for a film and not $10 ...
Basicly, what it means is this:
Studios are rushing to make movies right now, so that they've got something to release during the strike. If the strike gets resolved, no worries, they'll be able to keep making films. If the strike doesn't get resolved, they won't have any actors to make films with and Blockbuster's New Release wall won't be updated for awhile.

What I know about this strike is that it has pushed the release date of Star Trek X back to early 2002 (it had previously been Fall 2001), and could even push Star Trek: Series V back half a season or more as well (since writers are going on strike as well)

A break between the end of "VOY" and the start of "BOTF" isn't neccessarily a bad thing ...
Anyway, it'll be hard to get actors to fill in during the strike because, presumably, those "scab" actors would then not be allowed to join the SAG after the strike ends ...

The strike isn't about actors making millions of dollars per picture. Originally, it wasn't about those sorts of actors at all. This started as a disagreement between commercial actors and commercial, uh, makers. ("My God, my head! Thank you, Proxynofalethaline!") It has since grown, as all these actors belong to same union.
1/ Queer As Folk is a British TV show. Amasingly, we don't actually care about the SAG strike. No, we make TV shows without ANY American support. And so do other countries. Don't worry, I'm sure Bush will put a stop to this when he hears of it.
2/ Queer As Folk ended almost 2 years ago now. There are no new episodes. Sorry, but that's the breaks. (It was a good TV show, but not one that was designed to go on for years).

Oh joy! - another US remake. Cracker and Men Behaving Badly have already been screwed up, and I can see this one going the same way. You'd think the US TV networks would have realised by now that they just don't understand British humour well enough to make a remake that'll do justice to the original.

Can't even do American things right. It took Britain's Channel 4 to do a version of "Tales of the City" because US networks would only consider it if the principal gay character became straight, and his boyfriend the gynaecologist (do you know, I think that's the first time I've ever written that word) became a Serial Killer. In fact, I see "Further Tales. . ." is out soon, been 8 years since the original (and 3 since "More Tales. . .").

Just out of curiosity, how does the US version of Queer as Folk compare to the British version. Our version was good because it was so controversial and deliberately set out to push back every boundary. Is your version the same, or has it been toned down for a more sensitive audience.
