...Queer as Folk? The US version? I think it's high time to have a wee discussion about this series. And as much as I want to hate it, i'm really starting to like it. A LOT.
And I don't want to. But I do.

Well, any discussion about TV programs, except for the four to six hours a week I watch, is good for it's reading value....

I rarely watch TV. The only shows I even remotely come close to following are "Boston Public" and "The Practice."

I've seen bits and pieces (no pun intended) of the show. Campus cable doesn't offer Showtime, so when I'm home I catch parts as I flip through the stations. I think the last thing I saw was one of the characters getting his back aligned by a chiropractor. My mother (of all people) watches it fairly regularly, though.

I saw a billboard for this show yesterday while I was in L.A., and even though one could read quite alot into the title, it leaves me to wonder whatt he hell this show is about?

Oh they are most certainly Queer, alright. So much so, I don't even think there's a plot, just men in tight pants squealing "I AM SO GAY!" Over and over again, which is (presumably) designed to shock us into all being gay. Or so I assume.

You don't want Rev. Falwell finding out about the Gay Plan For World Domination, do you?
There's a whole Tele-tubbies thing as a smoke screen in place for "QasF". Shhhhhhh.

I don't watch much tv myself. I usually spend my time watching REAL anime, like Lodoss Wars, Evangelion, or Vision of Escaflowne. And dubs suck.

At first I viewed the show w/ great skepticism because I was thinking "Gee, maybe somebody will do a NORMAL show that didn't involve raising every damn stereotypical gay cliche on this planet and shoving it in an hour long format."
Boy was I WRONG.
But I watched it again. And again. And again and then I realized, "Damn! I'm hooked on this!"
My take on some of the characters:
Brian: I really, really wanna hate this guy. He does all the wrong things (AKA sex w/ Justin, drugs, sex with everyone else) and he's so MANIPULATIVE it hurts. But one scene that won my approval was when he was with Justin's parents and after Justin's dad has a massive homophobic fit, calling Justin and his "lifestyle" disgusting, Brian decides take poor Justin in after it's soon realized that Dad's really gonna fuck Justin up with his homophobia. (See Sunday's eppy for details)
Michael: This guy I can relate to. A lot. He's into anime. He's fairly decent. But....he's also still quite closeted. Much like me on most days. He's also got a cool mum (Deb) who I think we all wish was our mother.
Emmet & Ted.: can't say for sure on those two. Jury's waaaaay out with those two.
Lindsay & her partner: Ditto. Did I mention this show had lesbians? Sho' nuff does.
Justin: He's cute, he's artistic as hell (something i'm not) Oh and he needs to be so whacked with a clue-by-four, it borders on the ludicrious. Kid, you are NOT gonna have "happily ever after w/ Brian" He's not the marrying type. Just ask Linds. And for that matter - he needs to be around the lesbians & Deb. NOT Brian. Oy.
Dr. Dave: I like this guy. He's a fighter. He's a lover. He's a doctor. AND he's not Brian. All the right things for Mikey. If he manages to beat Brian at his game, Mike will be his for life.
Thoughts? Impressions about all this?
