When was that established in the first movie?[/qb]
When Doc demonstrates the Delorean in the parking lot of the mall, he makes a big fuss about how Einstein's watch is exactly one minute behind. "He skipped over that minute to instantaneously arrive at this moment in time." It would be like Einstein disappearing in the Delorean at 1:03 am and arriving at 1:04 to find the dogfood he threw up at 1:03:30.[/qb]
Okay, but can't we therefore assume that the Doc and Marty that got committed / crippled / whatever ARE their future sleves who went through all that fun with the Delorean, went back to their (slightly improved) timelines only to get everything mucked up by Biff? Marty wouldn't have been crippled in the race with Needles had he not gone thorugh all the fun in the first movie and won himself the truck; Doc could easily hae been committed if he'd been through all that mess in 1955 and spewed his theories to everyone in the first place without being tempered by his later 1955 experiences in BTTF3. Time travel. Tricky business. Unpredictable. Besides, Doc went through this initial spiel with exactly ONE SUCCESSFUL EXPERIMENT under his belt, that being Einstein. He could have been just wrong with his temporal mechanics to begin with, and covered his mistake with a bunch of new technobabble that Marty couldn't understand anyway. Mark [/QB]
