Yep, time for that mandatory randomly-scheduled edition of "what the fuck are all y'alls listening to of late?"

I've been SUCH the music whore lately. In the past 6 weeks, I've acquired the following CDs:

Illumina & Japanese Dream, Alisha's Attic
VIVA! La Woman, Cibo Matto
The Trinity Sessions, Cowboy Junkies
Make You Love, Vanessa Daou
Envy, Eve's Plumb
Fight Club soundtrack
Gladiator: More Music (new just-released 2nd soundtrack)
Hey Babe, Juliana Hatfield
Timbre, Tongues & Tails, & Whaler, Sophie B. Hawkins
Evolution, Magdalen Hsu-Li
Silence, Tara MacLean
Pi soundtrack
Happy End Of The World, Pizzicato Five
Run Lola Run soundtrack
Brand New Knife, Happy Hour, & Pretty Little Baka Guy + Live In Japan, Shonen Knife
Dig Me Out & The Hot Rock, Sleater-Kinney
Life's Too Good, The Sugarcubes (the CD had extra tracks)
Resolver, Veruca Salt

I've also burned a 2-CD writing mix, a battle mix, & a friend compiled a CD of all the songs from "Macross Plus" I didn't have.

SO much to listen to....

I own both the PPG & "Mononoke" CDs; love 'em both. Tora, if you can find it, get anything by Yoko Kanno. She's done stuff for "Macross Plus," "Cowboy Bebop," "Escaflowne," & other series.

GA: I really CAN'T afford them...well, I CAN, but..yeah. There's also the fact that the parent company of my store owns a shitload of music stores; all three of the ones in our mall, to be exact. So that 30% discount comes in really handy at times.

Of course 3 CDs (the Alisha's Attic & Magdalen Hsu-Li ones) came from Amazon, 2 of the Shonen Knife ones came from eBay, Make You Love is a burned copy of a French-only import which I'll replace with the "real" CD soon from Amazon, Envy I got from a housemate who didn't like it..oh, & I'm acquiring the "Earth: Final Conflict" CD from her as well, as long as I burn her a copy for her to keep.

And my CD's were not recovered, along with MANY other things. I'll never get to replace those CD's you know..... too much $$$.... I'm pretty broke :-P

First of all - *kills Shik*

I warned people what I'd do if another of these threads was started.

Second of all *kills Napster* *or at least kicks its broken mutilated corpse*

THAT's for having me spend ages trying to download "There She Goes", while not paying attention, and finding out I've downloaded the bloody Sixpence None The Richer Version. ARRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

And finally: the Powerpuff Girls album? Is it any good? Is it related to the show at all? Do the voice actresses (and actors) pop up? Does Mojo (dear sweet Mojo) get a song? Huh?

Yeah, the PPG CD is pretty good. I picked it up mainly for the Shonen Knife song (which is about Buttercup--how perfect!), but Mojo has his song done by Devo. It's happy, poppy, fluffy, & campy. Pure PPG.

Diane: VeggieTales are animated anthropomorphized vegetables that either act out biblical stories, or teach morality lessons. They're an insdious means to twist children's minds into being good little Christians. Basically, they're propaganda of the worst sort: targeted at children who can't know any better.

I have to agree, with Shik about Yokko Kanno. The first stuff i heard from her was the bebop soundtracks, and that's what turned me into a jazz lover.

I haven't picked up the Mononoke soundtrack yet, but I'm sur I can get a copy from Napster.

:::sighs::: I bought another Cowboy Junkies CD Friday...but only because I wanted to go flirt with Emily. Bought a copy of "My Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn as well; everybody & their brother's been telling me to read that book.

Solly: good call on the Coltrane. Go get Dear John Coltrane by Vanessa Daou. All the songs are about him, have strains of his influencing in them.

I AM RESURRECTION MASTARR!!

(No, really. I searched for this thread for a good 20 minutes. Even stopped staring lustily at Olaide to do it.)

During my, um, "absence," some folks who were in contact with me got interested in what I was listeneing to. Finally I have managed to get a current list of what is on Smilla, my iPod--of course, it'll probably increase this weekend--& thanks to Topher, it's now webposted. (WARNING. BIG gorram file)

All 11,031 songs...my entire music collection save a couple CDs I didn't put on & a few that only have select songs on them. I do so enjoy making mx CDs, too.

The Dandy Warhols
Keene (mostly B-sides and downloaded radio covers)

I'm curious about what definition of Jazz intersects with Morphine.

Posted by Jason Abbadon (Member # 882) on :

Kidding, right?
Well, I suppose it depends on your personal definition: many think stuff like Spyro Gyra and Kenng G are "Jazz", but for me, it's all about that "big" sound that you might hear in a back room in Chicago or New Orleans in the '40-50's.
Morphine definitely qualifies.

I can see an afterlife concert with Louis Armstrog and Mark Sandman....
Beats the old "angels with harps" thing anyday.

Go back and listen to A Cure for Pain and you'll hear (their own brand) of Jazz.

Though I dig a well done Yoko Kanno arrangment as much as the next guy, and Miles is the best for cooling down after work. [Cool]

Depends on my mood, and the level of my head pain.

Nelly - "Da Dirrty Mix: The Reinvention" or some other such nonsense.... it's his remix CD from a while back. The weather is nice, I had a few days without a horrific migraine, so I put all my windows down, opened up my sunroof, and cranked the Nelly. It was time to exercise my stereo for the spring. Nice.

Other than that, there's been a lot of Evanescence on my depressed days and Eminem on my angry days.

Medications make me moody.

Most of the time, the stereo is turned way down in my car though, and it's just on a pop, jazz, or classical station. Easier on the migraines. Fucking life robbers that they are.

Some people consider spinning to be exercise using a stationary bike.

So, [Wink] .
