A 1990 Nissan 240SX.

It's my first manual car, my Nissan NX-2000 is automatic. Personally I wish I could have kept the NX-2000, but family and financial issues prevented that. But anyways...

 - -

That's basically it right there. Odds are I'll get stationed in San Diego, which will give me a good opportunity to fix it up with a body kit, a new spoiler ... that sorta stuff, along with some engine upgrades. It won't look like it came from the set of The Fast and the Furious or anything, but hopefully when I'm finished it'll get noticed. Besides the Navy doesn't pay me enough.

Once I have it paid off in 2 years I ought to be a petty officer by then and will probably go for the Nissan SE-R Spec-V. Now there's a sweet car I wish I could afford today.

I love Nissans. If only for the fact they're NOT a damn Honda or Acura. The only reason I hate those 2 companies are because their cars are too common and overdone. Not only that, but they make finding stuff for Nissan more difficult. Besides, I never want to drive a car everyone else has.

Then you need one of these.

And you just liked the other car simply becasue then you could tell everybody you drove the NX-2000. I'm sure like 80% of their sales went to geekoid Trekkies with shitty senses of humor.

"Excelsior? Why would you want that bucket of bolts?"

Ha ha ha. Car salesmen have a pretty shitty sense of humor too, trust me on this.

Lest I forget: nice wheels. And the manual transmission makes your purchase even more worthwile! Caress that stick, and she'll always bring you home.

Posted by Hobbes (Member # 138) on :

Um, no. I loved the NX-2000 because it's a great car. Made for only 3 years and mostly in Japan which made it more rare. Just because it was called the NX-2000 isn't the reason why I got it, it was more of a funny coincidense.

That might have something to do with the fact that Acura IS Honda...

It's a funky Japanese technique to make Americans think that we're buying from a luxury line when in reality they're just from the same cheap company. Everything Acura sells in America is sold under a different name as a Honda in Japan. Acura RSX = Honda Integra, Acura NSX = Honda NSX, etc. Nissan is guilty as well, everything in the Infiniti brand is really just a rebadged Nissan. Infiniti G35 = Nissan Skyline, Infiniti Q45 = Nissan Cima, etc. Toyota is also guilty, but twice over. Lexus is a bit different though, since they also exist in Europe. But again, Lexus IS300 = Toyota Altezza, Lexus SC430 = Toyota Soarer, etc. The other brand that is really rebadged Toyota is Scion, a new brand launching next year that's supposed to be urban and hip. They have two models planned, the Scion bbX and Scion ccX. They are...a failure waiting to happen.

Oh, and a nice 240SX. Some really good stuff can be done with that engine since I believe it's the same one used in a Nissan Silvia and Nissan Skyline GT-R. Or at least they share similar parts. So you can really do some mad mods to the engine of that thing if you wanted.

And I'd hold off on that Sentra SE-R V-Spec. Nissan has been having problems with the car since it is not living up to their initial specifications. Basically, the car is producing nowhere near the power they claimed it was supposed to. For performance it'd be much better to go with a 350Z, but that might be a tad too expensive plus you lose the practicality of having 4-doors as well as having to live with the design of the car (but who knows, you could love the looks of the 350Z).

Posted by Hobbes (Member # 138) on :

Acura is Honda ... I did not know that, but that does make a lot of sense now.

I knew about the other car companies mentioned being a smaller "luxury" line though.

And Shik ... one, I would NEVER buy that car.

Cartman, you might like caressing sticks, and you may even have plently practice but it's just more work for me. Though I'm getting use to driving manual, even though I wouldn't mind an automatic still.

I would buy Shik's car with all my might.

Grabbed from Acura.com

Acura EL (Canada-only model) = Honda Civic sedan
Acura RL = Honda Legend
Acura TL = Honda Saber/Inspire
Acura CL doesn't have a Japanese counterpart
Acura MDX = Honda Pilot
Acura NSX = Honda NSX
Acura RSX = Honda Integra

A friend of mine has been trying to get his hands on a 240SX lately. I think he wants to swap a Silvia motor into it...

Has your friend looked into getting a Skyline GT-R engine instead, since the Silvia and Skyline GT-R share the same engine but the Skyline has twin turbos?

Good choice of wheels, man! I'd better get to see some pictures when she's all decked out!!!

I, on the other hand, am actgually parking my car next week so that I can drive around a 1991 Nissan 300ZX... a friend of mine is trying to sell it, but he doesn't have time to drive her around and advertise, so he asked me if I would since I drive so much anyway...

T-tops, leather, amazing body kit, pimpin' stereo system, gorgeous shade of blue that he just had custom painted in the spring... *purrs* It was a sacrifice, but I told him if I HAD to, I'd drive it [Wink]

Yay! Maybe I'll even be able to pick up guys this way... hehehehe..... [Big Grin]

You know, I'm not so sure about a Honda Pilot and an Acura MDX are the same vehicle. My boss has an MDX, and when I parked next to it with the F150, it had a couple of inches heigt-wize on it. I drive by a Honda Pilot once, and it looked to be only a bit bigger than a CRV.

Yeah, I'll try to. I'm not gonna go overboard on the exterior work. I want to go for a more subtle body kit to retain a sleeker look that would get noticed but not draw a ton of attention either. Mainly I'm concentrating on the interior, fully customizing everything I can.

Posted by Snay (Member # 411) on :

Leave the outside alone ... the car looks fine without a spoiler or any other nonsense. If anything, get a new paint job ... jet-black, or silver ... bright yellow ...

Ya' know, the fuck?

Quotes, sir.

Also, I think it already has a "spoiler" of sorts. Or that little fin nub thing. I've yet to see one without.

MDX and Pilot are definatly the same vehicle. Both are based off the Honda Odyssey/Isuzu Oasis minivan platform. The Pilot may only seem smaller because of the different sheetmetal. Kind of like how a Chrysler Concorde is several inches longer then a Dodge Intrepid, although they are basically the same car. It's merely that the Concorde has more overhang on the front and rear. As for the Pilot LOOKING like a CR-V, definatly. Typical Honda bland styling [Razz]

I think whenever someone posts something about a car, a little mouse runs and bites The359's nose and mimes a car driving. And then The359 cracks his "ALL ABOUT CARS 18XX - 2002 EDITION NINE THOUSAND FORTY-SEVEN" and posts everything he can find out about it.

I also don't think he knows how to do an oil change. Not that that is a bad thing -- neither do I.

Hobbes: leave the frickin' spoiler alone. Don't make your car a rice rocket. I can't wait until I'm a police officer and can ticket some of those assholes.

Well, since you said Traffice Enforcement, I'm guessing a pursuit car, and since you said marked car, I'm guessing a Chevrolet Camaro Pursuit Special, since they are the only ones that put out official pursuit cars.

And if I would recommend a good car for them, I'd say maybe the new Pontiac GTOs, especially since the Camaro is no longer built.

And I don't have a book. Or a mouse. It's all just memory. I just happen to ramble...a tad...

There was nothing there... I didn't feel a thing.... I just didn't FEEL it! Pleh. [Roll Eyes]

And as for police cars, my neck of the woods has recently introduced the Mustang, Camaro, Ford Explorer, and believe it or not, TWO Volvo S80 station wagons.

Can you believe that? GRANNY CAR!!! It's the meanest trick in the book for undercover cars...... *shakes head* Oy. My days of speeding have lessened, that's for sure.....

Posted by The359 (Member # 37) on :

This is not a granny car:
 -

Volvo V70 Police Special. Used in large numbers for many European police forces. The other popular Volvos for police use are the S60, and if the police start getting S60 R models, they are definatly NOT to be messed with.

Posted by Eric Cartman (Member # 256) on :

I've driven a chiptuned V70.

WOW.

Those cars are badass! Their innocent appearance belies performance that would fit a 996 Carrera... we're talking 300 odd horsepower on tap, massive amounts of torque even at low RPM, and enough oomph to drag the beast to 155+ mph if there wasn't an electronic limiter in place.

Granny mobiles they ain't.

I don't know exactly what model was used back in the day (maybe V60?), but Volvo used to run station wagons in the BTCC (British Touring Car Championship) against sedans and hatchbacks. Did pretty decently.

Posted by The359 (Member # 37) on :

Well I think the entire state of Washington must have bought Volvo police cars, because my girlfriend was pulled over just yesterday by a white unmarked Volvo sedan somewhere between Ellensburg and Yakima. So it's not just your neck of the woods LOA, everyone in Washington state had better look out for the "granny cars" [Razz]

Posted by Snay (Member # 411) on :

You do NOT have to pull over for an unmarked police car ... well, you DO, but you can (and should) continue driving until you're in a well lighted area -- a gas station, or convenience store. If you're pulled over by an unmarked car and are suspicious of whether or not it is a real police car, make a signal that you recognize you are being pulled over (turn on a signal or something). Also, feel free to call 911 and request a marked unit.

I say this because there are assholes who are NOT POLICE driving around with a blue dashlight, pulling people over. There was a guy in PG County who pulled folks over in his BMW. You'll often find that the people doing this shit are volunteer firefighters. [Smile]

Posted by The359 (Member # 37) on :

Actually you can only do that in certain states. I know for a fact in Indiana it isn't allowed. I know because my cousin was pulled over in Indiana in May while I was with him, and he is from North Carolina, where it is indeed legal. When he pulled over he asked the cop if he was allowed to pull up to a gas station or whatever and the cop said that wasn't a law in Indiana.

So it must be a local thing Snay, although I dunno if a cop would really get on you for doing that when it's not legal.

The fact that you're still driving while he's trying to make you stop and pull over.

Posted by Snay (Member # 411) on :

If he can see that you recognize that you're being pulled over and are only waiting for a well lit area to pull over in, he won't be harsh to you as a result.

Clear signal bumper lights
Reverse indiglo gauges
OBX Type-R aluminum racing pedals cover set
Nismo aluminum emblem

I'm also looking to get a few other special things, like 180SX windows and center tail piece. In Japan the 240 is called a 180, so I want my car to also say 180SX to help make it even more different from all other 240's around here.

Actually the 2nd Porsche you have there is the previous generation 911 (993). The current 911 (996) looks like this:

2002 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S

And I bet they are just regular Porsche 911 Turbos, they'll be able to keep up with most things on the Autobahn.

The UK also has some Lotus Esprits roaming around. Just as good, although there isn't much of an Autobahn in the UK.

Heh. Reminds me of an incident several years back. During weekdays, autobahn sensors would periodically pick up a car doing over 210 (!) mph. The police were so baffled they decided to investigate further... turned out it was a McLaren F1 driven by this businessman who had to commute between work in Hamburg and home in Dortmund (a good 300 miles).

Now that's what I call swiftly and with style. [Cool]

But, yeah, a regular 993T should have no trouble catching most speeders. [Smile]

It is the fastest production car in the world and did 238.9mph in a record test. The McLaren F1 LM can do 241mph (but they aren't considered a true "production car" since only a very small handful were build).
