Two good friends of mine are moving to London for a year. They head out to Jolly Old England at the end of December.

And I'll be out to visit them, probably some time in April.

To all the English on the forums:

Run.

You know, it'd be a lot cheaper to come visit me in Texas. As an added bonus, I'm only five miles from the Harris County GOP headquarters building. We could hang out, go to one of Houston's several hundred strip clubs, and I could drop you off at the GOP HQ for a couple hours to taunt them.

Hey, took a bit, but my kiwi friend finally gave me her list...

top ten: (south island only)
so basically, after all that, it depends how long he's there for and how he's getting around and what he's into. another place i love that isn't too touristy is Arthur's Pass - Craigieburn, Broken River, around there, middle of the Southern Alps- very rugged and kiwi and quiet and cool and ok yes i'm biased because i spent half my childhood up there checking the weather towers with my dad. anyway. umm. how many's that? that must be about ten...
She's talked a bit about how the North Island (well Auckland in particular) has become pretty touristy and silly, and I suppose it all depends on what you're going for, but there you go...

Nice list, BX. Thanks to you and your friend. But, you know, here's the thing - we, like, need jobs. Most of the kind of which we do are usually to be found in North Island. Lots of IT in Hamilton. We definitely plan to avoid Auckland (unless it's commuting there).

Nope. Going, hopefully, for good. Might not work out, in which we'll have had a long (and expensive, but hey, it's only money) vacation, and we'll come back and start again. But I doubt it.

It seems odd that there seem to be more IT opportunities in NZ than in the UK, as it appears with you moving and all....

I've never pictured NZ as a technology capitol I guess, silly me....

I'm not moving because there are more job oppos there - there probably aren't, in a country the same size as the UK but with a twentieth the size of population. Which neatly covers one of the reasons we are moving. 8)

You should all come here to Fort lauderdale.
We're having a monsoon this weekend, but it'll be sunny and warm next week.

We've got chicks and guns and fireworks and booze and the second Matrix on the Imax and Fetish clubs and puppies and two oceans and ponies and racecars.
And I've got an extra bedroom. (although, you'd have to clean it up to find the bed)
All of you can stay in that extra bedroom (at the smae time), except LOA.
I got space in my room for her....(insert Evil laughter here)

Oooh, fun. I've never been to the Johnson Space Center myself. I've driven by it a few times, and I've stood outside of it a few times, but I've never actually been inside. Sounds like a fun trip.

And, if you and your sister meet up with me, I'll treat ya'll to dinner. I know a lot of good restaurants (obviously). And, unlike Jason here, I'll refrain from trying to seduce you. Mostly because it's awkward. Explaining two gigs of pornography on your hard drive to your mother awkward.

Siggy: Yay, food! If we come down there, we'll have to hook up. And as for NASA, I happen to have a "friend on the inside", if you know what I mean, and he's getting us hooked up with the uber-tour! Wahoo!

And all of you men around here should learn a thing or two from Siggy... he's not trying to get in my pants, which means he's the most likely to get in my pants..... well, maybe not.... no one gets in my pants, actually, but still.... Siggy is a true gentleman and my knight in shining armor! *swoon!*

I could be a gentleman!
Really!

Besides I have a biiig bed with comfy sheets and stuff.
"stuff" will be as far as we describe it. [Wink]

SEriously, if you should find yourself in my part of the world, come to town: the museum is nice, the beach is GREAT and there's lots of cool secret spots to hang out in.

Ooh... connections. The only closest I have to a NASA connection is my best friend, who's a graduate physics student who worked for a research center here on campus that's affiliated with NASA. What does this mean? I've gotten to study in the college's observatory a couple times.

Well, Liz and her sister's excuse for visiting Texas isn't exactly close to me. It's on the opposite side of town (and technically, it's in Clear Lake and not Houston). Depending on traffic I could get to it in anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours.

On the other hand, I'm just a couple miles from the Galleria Shopping Center. It's a giant mall with overpriced stuff. Some people like to shop there, I like to curse the traffic as it interferes with my work commute.

I'm also a couple miles from Memorial Park, about 5 miles from the museum district and medical center, and Houston is home to over 150 gentlemen's clubs (but I doubt Liz and her sister would want to visit one). We also have a billion dollars worth of new sports stadiums housing teams that haven't have a good season in many moons (except the Aeros -- the won the Calder Cup last year, I think).

LOA's not gonna let anyone into her pants. She may tease and flirt, but she's still a woman of virtue. Okay, a woman of virtue with a weakness for car audio equipment.

And I don't want to get into anyone's pants. I'm quite happy with my current situation: look, don't touch, get drunk with bitterness and accidentally pee in the kitty litter box in a moment of intoxicated confusion.
