I hardly read comics anymore (though admittedly I've been dusting off my ancient Superman collection in preparation for Superman Returns), but I know changing character stuff is hardly new in the comics world. In the various WB cartoons, for example, we've seen both Lex Luthor and Harvey Dent grace the screen as black men. You're thinking of the 1989 Batman movie, where he was portrayed by Billy Dee Williams. I heard somewhere that Williams knew that Dent eventually became Two-Face, and so had it written in his contract that either he would play Two-Face in a later film or he would have to get paid a ton of money. Caused mostly by the fact that the caucasian skin tones used on the shows were unusually 'warm' and the way those characters in particular were drawn made their lips look a little thicker than the norm.<br /><br />As for this new Batwoman...I don't mind her being a lesbian (some of my best friends are lesbians) but I can't help but miss Cassandra.
